Sol=Sun in Swedish. "Kellar" -Cellar? Källare? (Swedish)
Words being connected through time like this is both amusing and makes me wonder how many words are coincidence and how many are directly related and where it was first x)

Does anyone else play the 'Time Team Ritual Drinking Game'? Whenever anyone (often Francis!) says 'Ritual' you have to take a swig of your drink. This evening it's a nice cuppa tea. Happy New Year, everyone, from S-E Hertfordshire!

Tony is such an ass. If it weren’t for my overriding interest in archaeology I wouldn’t watch. He’s rude and annoying more often than not.

Tiles look good, and also replace the old carpet around the altar with either a plain tile or more of that same pattern. Would put the chapel space over the top.

So Roman temples are like buses. You wait 15 years, and then 4 show up at once.

I was talking about this show with a peer the other day and very humbling realized people get degrees using half the hours theyve aired of this show.

Technically you are educated. Its just moreso in british optimism. 😂😅

Helen: "Three bits of dating evidence..."
Guy, butting in: "Or coins as we call them in English."
Helen, off-camera, pops Guy in the snoot...

Seriously, a fascinating programme, one I've watched before and was glad to find again, not least because I used to live in St Albans and have a recollection of the local paper mentioning "site of national importance" to add to the many Verulamium already possessed.

I enjoy Francis' enthusiasm. I think you need faith for some of his interpretations but I would have loved to have had him as my teacher, on any subject.

Question ive always had is what happens to the dig sites afterwards? I only know of such digs as Egypt or Rome where digs are cleaned up and put on display for tourists. But most in the UK are just in random fields. Take this one for example, its in a farmers field, surely the farmer would want that land back to plant again afterwards?

Human sacrifice a step too far for the Romans??? The Colosseum in Rome must be the most blood-drenched piece of land on earth! They crucified people left, right and center for the slightest whiff of sedition. The gladiators saluted the god-emperor before they set about hacking bits off each other but human sacrifice was too much for their dainty sensibilities? She’s having a laugh!

There is nothing I could dislike about these programs or people. Having watched TT before internet was common I was brought on a journey of highs and lows with experts who were a delight to enjoy and learn from. Now internet is so common and I can watch on my iPad I get to watch and enjoy all over again. Mind you I still enjoy guessing the year from Tony’s hair style and tummy. ❤

The Roman gods were Saturn,Jupiter etc..........those planets are originally assigned to the most important demi-gods (described as living beings) of the Annunaki of Sumeria ( or as the Torah calls them, the Elohim) If you think thats all clap trap, look around and you will see that Saturnic worship is everywhere in the modern world today.
