Fun fact that kiss was almost cut out of the film. Marlene Dietrich devised a scheme to keep it in by having her character take a flower from the girl and give it to Gary Cooper. The powers that wanted it cut were forced to leave it in for the sake of continuity
ОтветитьTell me why I was expecting Brookside to come up 😂
ОтветитьI love Queen Christina!!
ОтветитьI love your hair 😍
ОтветитьOf course Marlene Dietrich was involved. 😏 What an icon!
Ответить1930s! I was thinking 50s, wow
Ответитьdietrich & garbo always at the scene of the crime 😭
ОтветитьSpoilers! I’ve seen this movie at the theater! So much subtext in a good silent film. It was well worth the watch but I was a little disappointed when she awoke from her dream to then marry her male suitor who was kinda a jerk.
ОтветитьThere's also the 1931 german film Mädchen in Uniform, which is considered the first film in history with a lesbian plot, and it features a lesbian kiss.
ОтветитьDie Dietrich ❤️
ОтветитьAnd the stars were Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo who both had affairs with women, were famous for being androgynous and claimed not to know each other despite having been in the same German film back in the late 1920s.
ОтветитьIf she wants an award she could get a golden globe for her performance in the 0% Rotten Tomatoes scored Netflix movie "Blonde"
ОтветитьI knew this one! American cinema was much more progressive (and closer to reality mores-wise) before the Hayes Code went into effect.
ОтветитьWhere does the willow/Tara kiss land in this?
ОтветитьThat's fascinating, I'd have expected it to be more modern! If I remember correctly, the first onscreen kiss between two men is a 1928 film which is also the first oscar winner, though I can't remember the name. And the 1919 film Different From The Others is considered to be the first film to be sympathetic to LGBT characters. (One of my friends wrote a lot about LGBT film and TV for college, though he mainly focused on the portrayal of bi and gay men). I wonder when the first depiction of a trans character is, or the first bi character... it's something I'll have to look up.
ОтветитьI was so excited to already know this answer! Good job educating everyone, Jessica! You rule!
Ответить1968?
ОтветитьThe first erotic kiss between two members of the same sex in a film was in Cecil B. DeMille's Manslaughter

ОтветитьWow that's really cool!!! I thought there might have been films maybe in the 1960s were there was a kiss between two women but I had to idea there would be films that early!!!
I really want to find out more about them now 😂😂😂

ОтветитьAdditional fun fact: The first ever moving image (using an invention that was a precursor to film) of a kiss was also between two women shot by Eadweard Muybridge in 1882.
ОтветитьDoesn't count if there ain't tongue
ОтветитьBut this whole LGBT+ thing is just a modern fad…
ОтветитьI can’t get enough of a 1930’s lady in a tuxedo… 🤩🤵♀️🤵🏻♀️
