53%, this season is basically a win by our GM's standards....
ОтветитьAlso Felix led the league in innings in 2010 Mr. Kratz, also, also, forget a soto deal, all we had to do was keep Eugenio Suarez and Teo...
ОтветитьLife as a Mariner fan...... its abusive..
ОтветитьAnd this is Mariners fandom…
Former president Kevin Mather once told local radio ‘their goal is to win 81 games every year. Sometimes they’ll with 90 games, sometimes they’ll lost 70…but 81 wins is probably the best target to aim at.’
I haven’t seen anything since from this ownership that proves they’re not shooting for ‘average’ or slightly above and hoping to make the playoffs vs going and taking the division crown!? 🤯
You can't win with just good pitching how do people in charge of baseball not understand this.
ОтветитьDiPoto doesn't want to trade one of their SP. That's the only trade chip they have. Unless you're going to spend money in free agency, you'll suffer the same fate next year (if pitchers stay healthy) unless you trade one of them.
ОтветитьYou could run yourself in circles asking "what if?"
What if the Angels had swept Houston?
What if Detroit had chosen not to be bullies?
What if
What if
What if
What if
Seattle Mariners every year: We intend to be mid.
ОтветитьI know Seattle doesn't want to, but they should try and shop Castillo this winter. Trade Castillo for a major bat, if one is available. He's making 24 mil and is older, which means more milage on his arm. They have to start paying these younger players like Gilbert, Raleigh and Kirby. You keep the young 4 and Hancock is a decent number 5. They also got Evans in the minors who is on the cusp of the Majors. Also they need to shore up their bullpen. No ones been talking about it, but their bullpen blew a ton of games this year, they really missed Brash.
ОтветитьDoesn’t matter how good the Mariners rotation is year after year…year after year, the team as a whole also fails! Poor mariners…
ОтветитьThey need to improve the bullpen. They really missed the playoffs due to a lot of one run losses as Santos and brash were hurt all year and they had no one to get to munoz
ОтветитьI looked into the 2011 Phillies end of season numbers.... and as a biased Mariners fan, Kratz isn't wrong...
ОтветитьEverybody always crappin on Julio but he’s way above league average in average and defense but he’s “bad” like what they talking about…it was the lack of offense around him till the last 5 weeks or so and everybody knows that that’s a true mariners fan…JP was ass this year Cal had great power but his average hovered .200 Jorge got hot late but struggled till mid August and both Mitches sucked like get a good bench player and DH and possibly a 3B and they will walk into the playoffs next year
ОтветитьExactly! PROVE IT!!!
Ответитьmaking fun of 54%- it won the division this year. M's could have easily traded for Soto.
ОтветитьCan't believe I'm defending Dipoto after watching this frustrating team all year (multiple years, actually) but for the sake of argument, let’s generalize and say there are two ways to build a MLB champion these days: 1) construct the “best” team with the best players, highly-paid free agents, great farm system, etc. (see LAD, Phillies, Houston), or 2) build a team that can sneak into the playoff tournament (at 54%) and win a few series to win a title. Because of their frugality, the Mariners are committed to the second way. But are they so misguided given the inclusion of more and more wild card teams, thus increasing the randomness and odds of a “lesser” team winning it all? A small sample size from just 2023 shows Texas (WC) beat AZ (WC), Philly (WC) won a series; in 2022, WC Mariners won a series as did SD and Philly. I think Dipoto/management wanted to do enough to get into the playoffs then do major damage with this great staff - in the end they were one game away. Why would he sign Soto or mortgage the excellent farm system when (in his mind) they just needed to win a couple more close games? They’re not trying to be the Dodgers - they’re trying to be the D-backs. Yes, it’s an ugly, almost unwatchable mid product, but are we sure the top AL teams are so good this year that Seattle could not have made a serious run with that lights-out staff? The approach may be cynical, but it may also be the future.
ОтветитьI have no idea why Mariner fans would be upset at anyone pointing out the ineptitude of ownership. Until they spend a little and bring in some legit hitting this is it.
ОтветитьScott ripping owners apart for being cheap is the best part of the show.
ОтветитьThe ownership group only cares about their bottom line. Jerry has been hand tied every year, and still put together a great line up along with rebuilding our minor league. On the first day of this off season the owners have already bowed out of spending on proven bats. What Stanton and First Avenue Entertainment is doing is robbing Seattle fans.
ОтветитьProbably 8 or 10 times in the 2nd half we got beat in either the top of the 9th or bottom of the 9th. The LA Angels had Ohtani and Mike Trout and still didn't make the playoffs for years! Several games in September where we had the game in hand but the bullpen imploded. We need a team full of Luke Raley's, Justin Turner's and Victor Robles's.
ОтветитьThe Mariners' RSN is about to go bankrupt, which has panicked the team ownership in regards to budget. They could still be paying Julio on a rookie contract, but Dipoto threw a 10 year contract at a guy after 2 months, and then he promptly developed wrist & back issues. Victor Robles had 9 years to prove he was not worth anything above the veteran minimum, but Dipoto threw a multi-year contract at him after a few goods weeks. If they keep throwing their supposedly limited funds on players that haven't earned it, they'll never be able to afford a quality bat.
ОтветитьUntil jerry is gone and the team is sold we will never win
ОтветитьBut those commercials are so funny and best in the league so who cares if they don’t make post season .
ОтветитьTheo epstein only one can make them a world series winner
Ответитьthey allowed the fewest runs in the league. how do you do that and miss the playoffs?!?!
Ответитьthe dh hit .172.
Ответитьyou also forget that players don't want to play in Seattle, nor do their wives want to be there. road trips are too long, and hitters suffer at t mobile.
ОтветитьThe ownership group just wants the team to be good enough to stay in the playoff conversation. That will keep the fans in the seats and money rolling in. That is why the 54% total is the real organizational goal. That will keep the Mariners relevant, which in turn will mean profits. If somehow the stars align and they win a WS....great. But they aren't going to aggressively pursue the kind of players you need to win a championship. I often say.....if the Mariners are in the ALCS and are down a run in the 8th inning of game 7......how do you feel your chances of getting there are if the next 6 hitters are: Luke Raley, Mitch Haniger, Mitch Garver, Dylan Moore, Jorge Polonco and JP Crawford? Not good. You need better hitters to not only get yourself in position to make a real run at a championship but also have better players who can help you win if you get there.
ОтветитьAs a mariner fan this year was a total bust. They need new ownership.
ОтветитьRed Sox fan here. Lived through all the bad and/or frustrating years then saw them succeed many times in the last 25 years. The last few years, they won't spend the money anymore but won't call it a rebuild. I guess I understand what the other side is like now!
