Fantail/ Pīwakawaka with call - Birds of Inland Kapiti, New Zealand

We see fantails / pīwakawaka every time we go for a walk on our land, where they announce their presence with their characteristic cheep as in this short clip here. The fantail is one of New Zealand’s best known birds, with its distinctive fanned tail and loud song, and particularly because it often approaches within a metre or two of people. Its wide distribution and habitat preferences, means that they are encountered often as they are not at all shy or afraid of humans. Fantail will follow other animals, including silvereyes, whiteheads, parakeets and saddlebacks, as well as people, to capture insects disturbed by their movements. =====
