I guess one needs a special screw driver to take it apart as the side screws are unique in nature.

What kind of screw driver I need

** Word to the wise... a lot of these trims you dont "just remove". They slide off, not pop off like traditional trim pieces. Broke a few clips. 🥲

I just got a used PS3 Super Slim. While it only has 12GB of flash storage, I heard Super Slims always use SATA III (not SATA II). Without searching online, what's the largest hard drive size this console recognizes? I've heard 1.5TB, but has anyone successfully used a bigger one? I can't find a clear answer anywhere. I'm looking for someone who has tried a really big drive.

I still can't believe they didn't die shrink the cell once more after moving to 45nm in 2009. This thing could have probably ran near passive if they went to 32 or even 22nm.

theres a button on the opposing side of the power button on the transparent plastic that electrically opens the disc tray

When I opened mine up I have a cech-4201c it was a 500gb ps3 it had a 750gb hdd ( I have a USB to Sata cable that allows to use them as external drives ) in it which I thought was really odd I wonder what’s on the other 250 or if it’s just a blank partition, ( probably blank ) was a nice surprise when I SSD swapped it

You should have added interior screws are not a screwdriver ,they are a special torx unsure of size as of yet .
So I would not start breaking into it without that torx .

Don't use this as a tear down tutorial. He misses very important steps, you WILL break tabs off your covers if you don't know how to properly remove them.

Don’t do this at home if you love your PS 3 do not tear it apart if you are trying to keep it in good condition at all times mine is7 it’s years old and Is still working Even though it’s a bit hard to navigate the menu at times as well as navigating the store and sometimes Difficult to go to the game menu if you haven’t played it in awhile But it is my favourite console The slide back disc holder is just so easy to work with I’m glad it’s still working after all this time because I like playing God of War on it and LittleBigPlanet and all the other games that are on it

This is the worst walk through video on a disassembly I've seen. I don't care about the history of the reasons why they did what they did!I just need a fu@%n walk through, step by step instruction on how to take it apart for service and cleaning!

Sliding mechanism also increases reliability. Cutting cost is big but simplifying comes reliability.

I wish I had seen this video BEFORE I sold my ps3 slim and purchased the Super Slim...Now they are rare/hard to find, expensive, and neither ps4/ps5 can play ps3 titles :/

psa for everyone, the screws under that side panel require a TR8 Torx Security Screwdriver. i know this because it wasnt clarified at all and i dont have one because thats a REALLY tiny and single use screwdriver. great.

Nobody has a problem with the sliding door until it breaks and you need to close it using duct tape.

1. How many people use the button to open the slide cover?
2. How many even knew there was button for the slide cover?

Can you plug ps3 super slim on 220v?

My ps3 ss won't play Nfs Prostreet. It keeps freezing after I push start. Can't even get to the first race. Disc has no scratches or smudges.

I don't understand why they never upgraded the networking, and the SATA revision. It would've really made the console feel do much smoother, better, and newer.

I'm late to the show but what size is the 3 star screws on the side of Hard drive and the 2 on top of the disc drive? Didn't see him remove those.

That manual disc tray is a total turn off
