So if it says hue, it doesn't contain cadmium, is that correct?

I love cadmium pigments but honestly pyrroles are taking much of my warm red attention, if that exists 😂

Do the cadmium free oils from Utrecht state that on the tubes? I've searched on Dick Blick and the Utrecht site, but didn't see any descriptions that actually state the oils are cadmium free. Where is the best place to purchase them? I live in California. Thanks for your great video, Kelsey.

Hello, I was currently reading something on PV29. I really like that and other perylene pigments or dyes, but the study says they have a unreasonable risk as of 2020. What do I do? Watercolors hardly have that much pigment and I’m not making it myself. Should I be worried?

My take is that the genuine cadmium pigments have a cleaner color compared to the replacement hues.

We're impressed with how clearly you expressed the challenges involved in responsibly using genuine cadmium colors, and how well you executed your product evaluations! There are more artists than ever wanting to work free from special concerns over health, safety and disposal, who need full-fledged alternatives that deserve their place in the professional studio. We knew developing the Cadmium Free collection would be one of the most complex projects in Utrecht company history. Thanks for helping artists better understand their materials, and for sharing your knowledge and research!

So, I was able to tell the difference in the warmth and coolness of the yellows when the paint was lying down, but not so much when you held it up. As for the reds, it kind of look to me as though the cadmium free lost some of it's tenting strength, or maybe it was because it was cooler than the cad red.

I don’t use cadmium stuff unless it’s called Hue but I work with markers a lot because I like them and they might get on my hand. I know pencil lead don’t contain lead but I have some sensory issues also, it looks ugly on the skin.

Can I ask something? Daniel Smith Phthalo Blue Turquoise has AP certification. Which made me think I could use it without worrying about my health but then I saw something on the dickblick site. Its chemical name says copper phthalocyanine. Does this indicate that the paint has cooper in it? I am worried about this due to my health problems and wanted to ask.

Hey, That's a really nice video! I used cadmium paints since I started oil painting, and I knew they are not particularly toxic to ME but I honestly never thought of the environmental impact. Now im looking for cadmium free oil paint with the same opacity of the cadmiums. to me that is the most important characteristic of them. How are the Utrecht paints doing regarding opacity? I know winsor and Newton released similar paints recently and I'm thinking about trying them out.
Im curious how you used to clean your brushes before? After painting I try to get out as much paint as possible using a paper towel, then I clean the brushes in a solvent (odourless mineral spirit) that I constantly recycle. I just pour the clean solven into a new jar and the slurry of pigments settles in the other jar. that way I always have clean and recycled solvent and I collect the slurry on one big jar where I let the used solvent settle. then after the solvent I clean the clean brushes in the sink to get rid of the solvent and some little paint residues. Maybe I should do the second washing also in a jar...🤔

I have the kuretake watercolor set that has three colors labeled as cadmiums (I don’t know if they’re hues or actual cadmium pigments cuz they don’t provide any pigment info) but is it okay to pout my paint water down the drain if it’s watercolor? I’m asking because watercolors are typically much thinner and easy to dilute. Also thanks for making this video! Very informative :)

Yes, and not only cadmiums, but metals like Titanium and Cobalt are polluters too.
