Bose QuietComfort 45 headphones review: Time to ditch Sony?

The QC45s kinda suck after a year. There are times the switch gets stuck and I have to plugin the headphones while holding the switch all the way to pairing mode otherwise they will not turn on. That and when I have them connected to two computers at the same time, sometimes I have to disconnect the headphones from one of my PCs so it doesn't interfere with the other one. The audio gets choppy and cuts in and out until I disconnect the headphones from one of the computers and sometimes it's so bad I have to remove them from the computer and re-pair them.

Really disappointed,
They pair with my wife's Kindle and my Droid phone but will not pair with my Smart Samsung TV.
We have done the instructions as stated with no luck.
May gave to send them back.
Very frustrating.and disappointed.

These are the ONLY headphones i ever use fir studying, napping, car rides, vacation, bus rides ti/from school and everything. I love it sinply.

I got the SE, which I think is the same as the 45, but I'm going to return them, due to multiple issues. After 20 minutes, my ears hurt, which is a deal breaker. Also, they are unusable outside when it's windy, they have issues connecting between my mac and my iphone (takes a lot of fiddling), and it keeps getting stuck in the wrong mode when the microphone is enabled, and is difficult to get back when listening to music.

Since I work in a factory, I am looking for headphone where I can hear someone talking and listen to music at a low level. Thanks

Can I use these for noise cancellation wihout being connected to my phone?

Can you switch off the noise cancellation on the headphones

Will automatically stop the music if removed please?

THIS IS NOT COINCIDENT I AM CERTAN FOR 200%. In 5 years time we did purchase 2 pairs BOSE noise canceling over ear headphones. Both was with 2 years warranty. After 2 years ( 2 months after warranty), when warranty finished headphones stopped work. Just stopped. We did not damage, did not drop, because we are care about expencive items, because we are have fixed amount of income. For us impossible to repair headphones, because is very expencive. This not about money, this about quality. Everything is for money, making for money not for quality. After 2 years you must to buy another expencive headphones, because for company not reason to make high quality headphones. High quality last long time and company will lose profit. All companies doing same. This is my opinion. Thank you, V.G.

If battery runs out, and I use the wire, does it turn on noice cancelling?

Also, if Battery dies or us low, and I plug in power, does that disable bluetooth and ANC? Cause that is absolute dogshit design in QC35 currently. It should just work at such a price point.

Earcups are cheap and fall apart very quickly.
Headband uses cheap synthetic leather that falls apart and flakes quickly.
I've only worn them 20-30 times, and they have never left the house.
These were $400 headphones!
Bose head office don't care.
I wish I'd never bought Bose headphones.

I've mentioned this in a few spots, so I'm sorry for the repeat comment, but I've been on a bit of an OCD Over the Ear Headphones kick since maybe June. I've purchased 11 sets to enjoy what they do best in their respective categories. Some I use just for the gym, so those are either sweat resistant or, I just care about the cans a little less, so I'm not terribly upset if they don't last forever since I'm going to sweat in them (looking at you Beats Studio 3 and JBL LIVE 660).
Some I use for heavy bass music, some for hard rock/metal and so on. It's been a fun little journey to say the least.
Now, fast forward to a few days ago. I finally broke down and added the Bose QC45 to my arsenal. I only delayed getting them because all reviews said they don't have great sound quality. Well, I beg to differ. I'm sitting here baffled by how much I love the sound of these after simply bumping the EQ to +8, +2, +6. I haven't played with the EQ anymore than that, so they might be tuned even better, who knows?
But what this tells me is, sound is very personal. The more I watch reviews and test my 11 cans out, the more I see that different people like different sounds and that's GREAT. Perhaps it's that I'm old, I'm 47 so maybe I don't hear certain things anymore or I hear it differently. But, the sound on these Bose QC45 sounds so full to me. The bass hits to where you can definitely bang your head a bit, but without drowning anything else out. Actually, I feel like I hear mids and highs so well in these compared to some of my other headsets. They are simply great!
Hearing that some people like the Beats Studio Pros more certainly peaks my interest. Also, Sony X5s will need to be checked out, but I've stayed away because I don't love touch controls. And now, I'm hearing Bose QC45 Elite or Deluxe or whatever they are calling them will be on the horizon.
Bottom line is, this is a good time to be into over the ear headphones. Great video as always.

bought the qc 700 and to it sound crap the bass is weak. now i am thkinking i am going to buy the bose qc 45

mine occasionally has a high pitched squealing feedback sound in the right ear. also, it's upsetting that you have to PICK between quiet and aware, as opposed to using neither.

I have settled on the Bose QC 45 to purchase because of the overall comfort and manual controls. With the Sony XM4 you must deal with the sometimes glitchy touch controls.

i’ve had my qc 35 ii for 5 years now…hard to believe. I expected them to die by now but they’re still going strong with good battery life still. I have used them sooo much so i’m surprised. I really want usb-c charging but can’t justify the upgrade really

Good review on your earphones but you should try them in the subway where the train goes and see how well it sounds and and distortion cuts out in the underground train when it's moving

Is the aware mode somethng you can leave on? Like a mic passthrough? It's something I've always wanted from a pair of headphones but people typically want to cancel all noise these days instead of having your music or whatever sound you're listening to blended with the world around you.

I think it's very unfortunate, that in a video where you review the call quality decide to overlay music on top of the review. Sometimes music is OK, sometimes it's not.

I have a pair of QC45s and i love the noise cancelling definitely agree it's one of the best out there for noise cancelling, sound quality is great and love the USB-C and multiple bluetooth pairing. Only complaint is that when I'm in a call 1. my audio gets INCREDIBLY worse but also the microphone on these is absolute garbage too, however haven't been able to find any bluetooth headphones with a good microphone + audio when mic is active. love them though and love that you can adjust the bass, treble etc. Highly recommend if you don't already own any of these headphones.

Disappointment with the Sony noise cancelling headphones wh1000xm4 after about a year of use started to make a high pitch noise in one side, very piercing, looks like is a common problem with this headphones and Sony dont do nothing about it, I bought the Bose now.

I've had my qc 35ii since 2020 I think, still works good but I'm going to be switching to Sony next because I like their unique touch features, the less I have to pull out my phone it would be nice

The fact that you cannot control the noise cancellation output via the app is extremely disappointing. The prolonged exposure to noise cancellation technology hurts my head.

Consider buying the BOSE QC45 headphones guys! If you're looking for headphones and have a budget (cause it's a bit expensive, but hopefully you can get a discount or stumble upon a sale!😁)
I've read a lot reviews about these headphones! Comfortness! Really, it's super comfortable, not even exaggerating anymore. I've been told that someone wore these headphone for more than 5 hours and slept with it also without even noticing that they're wearing it! HAHAH

I have a question I can't seem to find an answer to : is the sound quality of the QC45 the same on both quiet and aware modes ? Compared to the mediocre sound on passive mode ? I mainly use it in an already silent closed room and don't need that much of an airplane pressure on the ears, it would be great that the aware mode was the same sound quality without the extreme noise cancelling which seems useless in that case. Been using QC 45 for a couple months now and thought i'd give people a heads up since I wanted to read comments like these before buying it. They feel really great, battery is really good, noise cancellation is good and i think the sound quality is good as well. With my headphones though there is a weird issue where my left side randomly starts rustling / making static noise that gets louder and louder as time goes on. Weirdly enough pressing the power slider down (normally you would slide it left to right) makes the rustling louder. And somehow once it gets really loud, the noise completely cuts out and then the headphones work as intended without any weird noises. The noise started showing up after like a month after usage and it occurs really randomly. I could send mine to repair cuz it still has warranty, but i cba because the noise can be fixed with that weird trick. Hopefully im the only one with this issue though. Apart from that i really recommend these headphones and they are definitely worth the price.

My qc 35II is on its last leg. They have been well loved and used. I need to replace mine. They didnt block out noise from fans or traffic as well as i hoped.

for some reason the quality of the noise cancelling of my headphones reduced and im not sure if its me being used to it or it actually has been reduced
