I pick up a extra Switch Dock years ago on a discount. Now each TV in my house has a dock. My office has mine, the bedroom has my wife's and living room has the extra dock.
ОтветитьI would agree with the idea that they include two controllers but they don't. Not when certain games require both controllers to play.
ОтветитьThis is the reason why I get the Nintendo console for the Christmas sale, even though I don’t celebrate Christmas you bet I’m taking advantage of those sales and Christmas deals but I don’t actually buy accessories for for Nintendo consoles unless I’m sponsored and I’m getting them for free
ОтветитьI bought a dock for like 30 bucks a few years ago, what the fuck?
ОтветитьIt’s actually 70 on Amazon idk which Amazon you’re using to spend 90🤨
Ответить$90 hdmi cable lmao
ОтветитьScott was eating cheetoes or something with his right hand
ОтветитьIt's still a USB to ethernet adapter. You just don't need an extra adapter now
Ответитьi realized that if it was like €49,99 or something i would have had 3 already...
ОтветитьMy best guess is that the switch itself is sold at a loss, and the all the suspiciously expensive addons (like games or more controllers) make up for it.
ОтветитьSo, the Switch's charger by itself is overly expensive, and the tiny board that is housed inside the dock is also expensive, but for terrible reasons...
Even though the Switch connects via USB-C, it doesn't exactly follow USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) standards... Through the Switch Dock and Power Supply, atypical voltages can be provided, and that is what the Switch uses when in Docked mode to push out a bit more power to display everything onto a larger and higher-resolution screen, and NOT drop half it's frames.
It is this reason why when other companies were trying to make their own switch docks, they assumed it would just use normal USB-PD standards and set them up like that, but the moment the Switch got the signal saying "Hey! I'm a Dock, we're operating in combination DisplayPort + Data + Power Mode; What voltage level are you asking for?" the switch then asks for an unusual voltage level, the third party Dock provides the closes one, and the voltage-mismatch kills the Switch.
Not only does the Switch ask for unusual voltages, but it is constantly fluctuating, so a Switch on a third party dock may look to be okay for a little while if running games or functions that don't require pushing the Tegra chip past what it normally does in Handheld mode, but either leave it on there too long or make it start to really work? <Poof> Dead.
No 3rd party dock manufacturer managed to figure out the exact power-draw requirements to run the Switch in docked mode without killing it, and they were scared off by how many of their customer's Switch units were killed by their products, so they noped out of the Switch Dock industry REAL fast, leaving it barren.
TL:DR; Switch Dock (and power supply) is expensive because Nintendo didn't conform to USB Power Delivery standards, preventing 3rd party docks from appearing on the market without killing the user's Switch. Custom Hardware, Custom Voltages, and a monopoly on accessories to hook a Switch up to a TV; That's why it's so expensive.
I am using a simple USB-C Notebook Hub with HDMI Out and Charge-Over-USB for my Switch and several different USB-C Notebook-Chargers with it without issues.
ОтветитьIt’s expensive cuz it’s first party nintendo!
ОтветитьI bought a switch OLED dock from a discount store for 40 dollars just bc it has a port for wired Internet fixing the switch garbage wi-fi
Ответить10 bucks for a special design seems ok to me
ОтветитьTheres a portable mode tho?
Also why not have a smaller dock for the switch lite? If they can sell this on its own why not sell the switch lite with a smaller dock?
I wanted to buy one, so i could fix it behind my PC screen and plug it into its unused HDMI port... looked out the price and noped out right away lol
ОтветитьOn special edition topic it really pains me that they never think about the art and the product itself. It is 99.99% of the time just a no thought slap that random art and boom "special" edition.
ОтветитьThis dock definitely has a 90% profit margin
ОтветитьWhy are your right hand fingertips so red...
Ответитьit just occurred to me after all these years, has Scott just been lying on the floor with legs kicking in the air all this time? or has he made some sort of carpeted table
ОтветитьIt is quite literally the cheapest, it's just an adapter for cables, it doesn't even have any cables, it just plugs the charger in the Switch while having a HDMI out, there's third party "docks" that are pretty much just a three-way cable (maybe with some extra USB ports)
ОтветитьI relate to this so hard. I'd been looking for a dock for years. Couldn't find one. Couldn't understand why game stores didn't have one. Kindly got through my spaghetti cables to move my dock from its home because the guests forgot theirs, or so I can play some games in more relaxed spaces and more active games in places with less furniture to knock over. I've also had a set of joy cons fail me on drift, and I'm starting to detect the problem on my replacement set. This stupid dock might be the straw that breaks the camel's back on me not buying the next nintendo system. With this one choice to price-gouge the dock, they made it so family unfriendly . Thanks for drawing attention to this, and to the people who read my rant, thank you for letting me vent.
ОтветитьI got a brand new dock from ebay for 30 €, and I've been using it in my sleeping room ever since. Having two docks is great, but having to pay full price for one sucks hard.
ОтветитьWhat I really hate about the regular dock is the Switch OLED doesn’t fit into it right. It fits, it’s just tight and feels uncomfortable pushing it down into it. I have a second dock for a regular Switch on my second TV and a Switch OLED. So, I still have to move my OLED dock to the other room even though there’s a perfectly good Switch good hooked up just sitting there.
ОтветитьI like how you can hear the buyers remorse at the end as he says it out loud
ОтветитьI know Cheeto fingers when I see them.. 🗿 lmao
ОтветитьJust an FYI: the nintendont switch light literally doesn't have the hardware to output audio or video. Those parts are just not baked into it😅
ОтветитьCan you imagine if the dock actually improved game performance?
Ответитьyou ate cheeetos before this video didnt you LOL?
ОтветитьI would honestly guess it's to actively discourage people from buying too many. If they were reasonable, I would personally buy one for every TV in my house and I bet everyone else would too. Suddenly Nintendo (a company famous for supply chain issues) would be unable to keep up with skyrocketing demand.
ОтветитьBecause Nintendo likes money
ОтветитьBecause Nintendo is a garbage, anti-consumer company that people continue to support. Answered your question foe you.
ОтветитьI just bought a Nintendo Refurbished one for like 1/3 the price, I didn’t even realize they sold just the dock otherwise 😭
ОтветитьThe only remake that I feel really deserves the $60 price point, is Super Mario RPG. That game is a masterpiece and the remake really gives it a whole new feeling. I enjoyed it more than the original, although I can't deny that the original has way more charm. Other than that, Nintendo is a little bit out of touch when it comes to pricing, but we still buy it lol.
Ответитьit costs the same as a Nintendo 2ds + a game in 2019
ОтветитьFor the switch lite thing, if they made a dock for it for $90, no one would buy it because they could just get the regular switch for $10 more and have infinite more features.
ОтветитьI would say 30
ОтветитьI bought this 2 yeara ago for 45 bucks, so I'm shocked to hear that it's doubled in price.
ОтветитьThe OLED has one less USB port for the Ethernet, so it doesn't have an extra port you just lose the option to plug in a Ethernet cable or something else to just already have an Ethernet cable, I have both
ОтветитьI'm an exclusive collector of dock set boxes.
ОтветитьThe funny part about the oled switch dock is that the Ethernet cord has never worked for me
ОтветитьOk but on the upside we got an extra scott the woz video i can hear while i sleep!
ОтветитьI bought the animal crossing switch when It came out so I could keep one switch at home, take one places and not worry about it and have a second doc then once I bought it I come to realize the launch edition switch is different then switches after a certain year... and the new doc is not compatible
ОтветитьYeee... i got 3 knock off pro controllers that work well and look good with gyto, vibration and amiibo reading for my niblings. I wasnt spending near 200 quid on controllers (which rn none of them have wanted to play the switch in months) that will likely get eventually broken from em.
ОтветитьI was looking forward to collecting many different color joycons when the switch was announced. I have only ever bought one pair. So expensive :(
Ответить$75 Canadian on Nintendo's site
Ответитьthe oled dock is 70usd
ОтветитьThe ethernet port is a MUST for online switch games anything to help combat Nintendo lag is worth it
Ответить
