Hungarian is a Uralic language of the proposed Ugric branch spoken in Hungary and parts of several neighbouring countries. It is the official language of Hungary and one of the 24 official languages of the European Union. Outside Hungary, it is also spoken by Hungarian communities in southern Slovakia, western Ukraine (Transcarpathia), central and western Romania (Transylvania), northern Serbia (Vojvodina), northern Croatia, northeastern Slovenia (Prekmurje), and eastern Austria (Burgenland). It is also spoken by Hungarian diaspora communities worldwide. With 14 million speakers, it is the Uralic family's largest member by number of speakers.

Udmurt is a Permic language spoken by the Udmurt people native to Udmurtia. It is distantly related to other Uralic languages like Finnish, Estonian, Mansi, Khanty, and Hungarian. Udmurt is co-official with Russian in Udmurtia. There were about 324,000 Udmurt speakers out of an ethnic population of 554,000. Ethnologue estimated 550,000 native speakers (77%) out of 750,000 ethnic population in the former Russian SFSR according to the 1989 census, indicating a decline of approximately 41% over 21 years.
