Yeah seige units can be pretty bad, if you move you cant attack, and they usually die from ranged attacks, thats why its best to wait until you build up an airforce of mostly bombers and tanks, bombers have really good range, and tanks can rush and pillage, and once you get GDRs, youve basically won.

Encampments are so iffy because they are the ultimate ace in the hole and you don’t realize it, but then again it’s a waste of a district slot, spamming ecampents decrease your snowball for the sake of some military power.

Gorgo's Greece is a good domination(trix) CIV, especially early on with cultural kills. And of course Nubia with the archer rush. Nothing beats going on top of a hill and being able to shoot on the same turn! Gorgo gets policy card bonuses and Raid is just awesome. An honorable mention is Monte and the Aztecs but Eagle warriors don't really cut it until you upgrade. Yeah, I don't bother with catapults, rams and siege towers are the way to go. In SP I try to get all my domination done in the medieval and classical era. Only in MP do I build Air Force because you absolutely have to. The other humans don't cooperate with my space race!

not trusting trebs because it's a french word? well, with that mindset you won't get a domination victory ever, as tons of words in military jargon are borrowed from french.

ok ive had great success with artillery in combination with planes due to the resources they both need and encampments i only use during a science victory as you can get a science bonus from military buildings

I think that another mistake would be choosing a civilization that is not a suitable for domination (like Congo or Khmer I believe)

constructive criticism: I've seen a few of your vids now and I'm not keeping up with your "basics". there's a 90/10 simile/fact ratio and it's your channel your way of doing things... but it's difficult to pick up info when I'm unravelling your japes. You're speaking in jargon and I've just started a few days ago so I don't even know what is cavalry or melee yet. Your vid isn't basics at all. As a Deity domination player... Artillery has a larger window of viability than you'd think just based on the tech placements. While Flight (Aerodrome) is at the same tech level as Steel (Artillery), it takes two more techs to get Advanced Flight (Bomber), and only then can you even start building Bombers. In contrast, if you already have some Bombards in your army they can upgrade to Artillery on the same turn it's researched.

In the time it takes you to research bombers and build 2-3 of them, your artilleries could have blasted their way through multiple enemy cities. And while Bombers are strictly superior to Artillery, Rocket Artillery is stronger than non-nuclear Jet Bombers in the endgame.

I agree that catapults are no good; they're too easy to be taken out. The only reason why I build them once I have enough of everything else is that I want them to start gaining XP so that when they become bombards and artillery, they have the promotions that give them longer range. Once you have siege units that can stay out of the firing range of a city, they're pretty great. Bombers are better, but they aren't available until late game. Siege units will help you span the time between the first walled cities and the emergence of bombers. If you're ever in a situation where the enemy AI has incredible city defense such that your melee units are getting devastated, it's time to bring in your promoted bombards, positioned on wooded hills.

Let's just say that I think siege units are very situational.
Here is a situation where trebuchets are necessary: the city has a high defensive strength (enough that your melee units suffer major defeats) but doesn't have walls or crossbows. This can happen when the AI garrisons a unique unit like Japan's samurai. One or two trebuchets can make quick work of the city defenses so that your melee units can do the rest. Once the crossbows show up, it is time to peace out until the next era. The funny thing is that the presence or absence of walls almost doesn't matter. They can slow things down but don't stop you.
