A head canon I just thought of was, these creature concepts can be creatures that lived on the planet that ended up going extinct before our character arrived on the planet.

so ive just discovered something, the creatures of Subnautica are either deadly looking and are deadly and the passive creature look passive and are passive. but with below zero a lot of the passive, friendly looking creatures (such as the sea monkey) pose a threat in some sort of way.

i dont remember who said it but the quote was along the lines of on were scared of our oceans on earth we know barely anything about what creatures dwell in the deeper parts of our ocean making this being an alien planet ocean makes that fear even greater because of the mystery

the sand spear is also kinda like a ant loin

The below zero map is 1/6th the size of the original Subnautica’s map, and far more shallow.
I’d imagine all of these could fit in a full-sized below zero map!

They made good looking monsters, same time females in game look like males in wigs. Was no bugdet to hire human modeller to make nice people?

Haven't played below zero but I hope they don't do parodies of real life creatures that's what I loved about creatures in the first they were all believable aliens, nothing like that we have here. (said from like... Fish form I guess.)

the ascender would only be effective against a creature breathing pressurized air meaning it wouldn't do anything to any creature but you, so it doesn't really make sense.

The Rotnest reminds me of RE4's Las Plagas.

Encountering it in Below Zero would be more fear-inducing... much more than the Reaper Leviathan.

Just a sidenote about the vent spider. Yeti crabs which live on earth near hydrothermal vents (I think near the poles as well but not sure). Yeti crabs have these “hairy” claws that provide a protected environment for chemosynthetic bacteria. In most cases chemosynthetic bacteria consume sulfur in the form of H2S. And as the chemosynthetic bacteria grow and reproduce, the yeti crabs occasionally “cleans” their hairy claws and consume the chemosynthetic bacteria essentially “farming” them. So yeah, something like the vent spider already exists just in a slightly different form

I think the Ice Dragon almost made it into the final game at one point.

Honestly just shows the potential of subnautica games and what a let down below zero realy was, not to say it’s necessarily a bad game, it just could have been a lot cooler.

I like to think that these were in Subnautica but went extinct due to the Khara virus.

Wish I got scared playing these games like everyone else. I love the games, the leviathans are really intimidating and amazing, but just not scary. The reaper is the closest, and I find it to be very creepy. Still love seeing a reaper up close, searching for me, then let out a loud roar and come right for me.

Wasn't there also a cut biome that was entirely made of a single cell creature?

below zero does have that much fauna so seeing cut creatures hurts.
