ОтветитьIs it available today where to buy ?????
ОтветитьI've bought nad 6220 Tape Deck that has been fully serviced been told by a friendly saying great
Ответитьwaste of time topic
Ответитьterreible HF response. Old decks are a better option as long as the old tape heads last.
Surgical question: would it be possible to remove the heads of the new decks and transplant them to older decks and maintain the higher frequency response?
Ciao, If i would need a Cassette Deck, i only would buy an older Deck from Kenwood or Denon etc..
ОтветитьFor $500 a new one would cost, you can get an awesome Yamaha or Denon, even a Nakamichi used 90s or 80s deck and then take it into a shop for an overhaul(new belts, cleaning, alignment, lube, etc) and would sound 10x better than anything in this video.
ОтветитьThe music 🎼 in the background is distracting as can be. Sounds like someone is hammering something 😢😢
ОтветитьAs long as Decks from the 80s and 90s are in propper condition available you can playback the really good recordings on CrO2 an Metal-Tape or record on the used vintage cassettes. But because these tape types and the good Decks are no more in production, and even the technologies and plants to build it, specially these tapes and any noise reduction system, are lost, this technology is history.
ОтветитьThe problems of cassette mostly are found in the speed and the 1/8" tape itself. Years ago when Stereo Review was around they would test the record decks recording at -10db peaks and -20 db peaks and at 0db. If you recorded at much over -10db most highs at 15khz were gone. At 0db you would be lucky to find anything about 10khz. The format was limited mostly by its physical nature. Of course the Nakamichi Dragon took cassettes to new heights, but it was crazy expensive. Plus, the format gave the average consumer a chance to do some recording and make tapes for their cars and the cabin noise was so high the HF really didn't matter much anyway. Any thing with a motor is going to be a problem with speed consistency, including turntables. Dolby B was an improvement As was C and S, but most car decks did not have an S decoder. DBX always had pumping and breathing issues. Recording studios had Dolby A for record and playback of tapes at up to 30 IPS which really helped masters.
ОтветитьI'm really frustrated.
I want to buy a new stereo cassette recorder.
I watched several videos of how to be careful when you choose.
Just I need that the cassettes recorder should contain (auto stop engages), metal bin with roll, easy way to change the built, Line in with Line out sockets, 2 VU meters and I don't know if LED or Analog is better!
Please ANA[DIA]LOG help me.
when digital first came out, it had every advantage over any analog medium, everything we complained about with tape and vinyl... so what did we spend the next 30 years doing? buying and developing digital emulations of analog systems to make our pristine digital recordings sound more... analog...
Ответитьwhats a good vintage boombox? whats a good way to find a good used cassette deck?
Ответитьwhere was that opening panorama? beautiful....
ОтветитьI totally agree with you. I have SONY TC-K777ESII restored.
ОтветитьI gave these new machines a wide berth and went with a restored Nakamichi BX2. Blows this new junk away in the first second of playback. Looks way better too.
ОтветитьIf ever there was a format that doesn't need to be revived..
Ответить50 years ago I owned a Teac A-450 cassette deck that if I recall correctly had a wow & flutter spec of .07%. I remember the ads at the time touted that low figure. The claim was that the capstan was machined more precisely than ever before. Why Tascam can't even approach that fifty years later is anyone's guess.
ОтветитьWant to buy
ОтветитьI was thinking to buy a new deck to add to my system
After check you video I decide go for a full refurbished Tascam 112R MKII. (Purchased and refurbished in Japan)
At the moment works great and very happy with the purchase
The frequency response of these is terrible. They really suck. My first deck was 30 to 16,000 hz. It was cheap, and I didn’t have expect much from them as it was given to me. Then I bought a lower end Harmon Kardon deck rated 20 to 19K. Then my current deck, is rated from 20 to 20k with metal tape. It’s a three head deck, which means you can listen to the tape as you are recording it. This deck allowed me to EQ the recording and set it up so that when I played the tape in my car it gave almost the same playback as a car stereo with CD. It took some attempts to get it right, but when I did people thought I had a hidden cd player.
ОтветитьI had a Nak Dragon and with a decent front end and Dynaudio in the 80's and it sucked compared to my first CD player @ $1000. Why would I even consider going backwards ?
ОтветитьTape, reel to reel cassette should never go away .
Give people the choice and take the money 🤑 .
Get a used one for ten bucks on eBay or preloved
ОтветитьI have a Tascam CD-A580 (same as TEAC). Even with good quality new tape (ATR Type II), I don't really like it's recording. It loses signal quantity and bass and treble details.
Ответить1. Double cassette decks are shitty copying machines .
2. 30 years ago Technics was making better decks than today's TEACs,Tascams, Toshiba's etc.
Still like my Yamaha and Mitsubishi dual decks
ОтветитьWhy bother with the rack mount ? lol!
ОтветитьI recently bought the teac w 1200...gotta say I'm pretty satisfied.
ОтветитьSir how connect old deck to onkyo tx8270?
ОтветитьNo surprise.....the specs will likely never be up to par with the 70's and 80's decks. MP3's will likely sound better!
ОтветитьHi 👋, And I have just recently rebuilt my transmission line loudspeaker cabinets with new drivers with new drivers made SEAS 150w ,
Have you ever used a record flatting device, I have been looking at a record Pi device, but can not see them for sale in Europe. Not sure whether it is worth investing in something like it I have about four or five records that are very badly walked one being Led Zeppelin III , I I was given some vinyl last year, approximately 320 45s and about 40 LPs, Do you recommend anything or can you recommend a way of trying to flatten them without doing damage to them or any more damage than necessary,

Hi , I have a Nakamichi DR2 , I purchased this back in the early 80s I have only ever had to replace the belts and grease and oil it . And I think it sounds amazing, What is your opinion on it, And I have already enjoyed your territorials on other subjects.
PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE
Use the yamaha kx 380.very good deck.
ОтветитьSo , what I think you're saying is , all these decks are a Pyle of Renkforce. 🤣
ОтветитьIt's nice conversation Thanks
ОтветитьBrasil.
ОтветитьYou can still have quality Tape Deck on eBay or Craigslist just have to have patience
ОтветитьThis is an excellent and informative video! This is exactly what I found when comparing new and vintage: I was undecided for to listen to and digitise old cassettes if I have to buy an expensive, new tascam w1200 at around 380/400 euro or a vintage product. I visited a few shops in my area (Milan). In one I found a nakamichi cr3e sold to be serviced for 500 euro or more to which the maintenance cost of a few hundred euro had to be added. Maybe a bit too much for my needs. I went to a second hi-fi shop which had a number of used cassette decks (in Italy, it seems to me, the cassette revival has not strongly started as elsewhere) and also has its own repair workshop attached to the shop. The shop had a bit of everything from an Aiwa excelia to be serviced over 500 euro but also much cheaper vintage decks. For 50 euros I found a Technics m45 that I had repaired for about the same price from the same shop. So a refurbished deck for more or less 100 euro. I chose the Technics following a quick comparison with a Yamaha k950 at the same price but with much more consumed heads and other issues. Checking the specs I noticed that these two 1980s items are already better than the tascam/teac w1200, so I made up my mind: partly on the basis of your very useful advice on the world of cassette tapes and partly because of the low cost compared to the specs of the vintage product compared to the new products. Thank you very much for the work you do in spreading the culture of analogue listening, but I must say that even on digital I find your videos enlightening. Bravo e grazie di tutto!
ОтветитьWell good review of decks apparently the new standard for these is "low fi" (not over 15 kHz on high end response) not even close to bottom end Nakamichi decks of past years, so technology on current cassette decks takes a big step backwards. Disappointing. Todays economy means producing low quality goods at low cost = current batch of cassette decks. My thoughts. Thanks for your reviews always the best!
ОтветитьApparently the reason why all new cassette decks are not the best quality is because there is only one company still producing the innards. This company was always a budget brand so they will never be able to compete with the audiophile market.
ОтветитьLabs...? You mean repair shops? We've looked and called for a week (in the USA) to find any shop that works on tape let alone cassette tape decks was...ZERO / NONE. Tape is dead, greed has prevailed. All tech's claim, tape is to time consuming and standard electrics (amp, receivers pre-amp's etc) is the only way to go. Tape is dead with only exception of the Nakamichi as they charge hundred and thousands of dollars for their specialized service.
ОтветитьDisappointing, why not 3 heads and 3 motors and Dobley ? Thanks for the advice.
ОтветитьI will go and rebuild my JVC decks, it will be cheaper and the sound will be much better. To hell with these mediocre decks.
ОтветитьNumber one if it's not made in Japan I don't want it like you said the decks from the ' late seventies'80s are the ones to buy I won't buy none of this junk made in China
ОтветитьThis is such a good video and your reactions made me LOL
ОтветитьDo you have a list of the labs that refurbish tape decks? I have a Yamaha MT120 that I had done recordings on that I would like to transfer to my PC. The transport quit working....
ОтветитьI wouldn'nt buy any of those decks (I'm sure you can find the oem version of the pyle/ion/renk/marrantz players on aliexpress for cheap) they most definetly all use the same Tanashin-like mechanisms with counterfeit Mabuchi motors
ОтветитьI don't understand why there is no concerted effort from the major Japanese audio equipment manufacturers to restart quality cassette (Type II, Type IV) as well as tape deck manufacturing. Granted, the demand now is not as great as it was in 1980 but just as turntable manufacturers have responded to the demand for vinyl, they've also fed into the increasing demand loop by providing better products. And I don't mean the same crappy 2 deck design we are seeing under different brands, but bringing back old models, maybe with some modern upgrades whenever possible. If Technics could do it with the SL-1200 to great sales, why can't the others?
Ответитьi want more chrome cassettes produced... like the tdk sa90's!
