How to edit query? For power query..
ОтветитьThis sounds like a game changer - can you also load data from different sources directly to the cloud now?
ОтветитьYour prediction was pretty accurate lol - interested to know your thoughts about MS Fabric
ОтветитьThere is a long way before the web version can really fully replace Desktop. For instance, you can't apply a JSON theme, and deal breaker, you can't see the contents of a table.
I many times create auxiliary DAX Tables or just want to see the content of a column to write a Filter in a measure. Those things are not ready yet.
Also., handling tables with millions of lines (lets say 40 million) is not an issue in a Power BI Desktop using import. But online, I was using Data Flow Gen2, Data marts etc... and they still struggle a little. A fully funcional up to the challenge all online version is more than welcome, but we are not there yet.
I'm hoping for Power BI to be completely cross platform eventually! I like staying on Linux
ОтветитьThe data model is created in Power Query - that relationship view is only a visual representation of it with the cardinality specified. Not really what I would call editing the data model from the dataset perspective. Sure you could setup dataflows or datamarts in the service, but that's still not the relationship view.
ОтветитьDoes this mean that we are able to transform the data in the service as well?
ОтветитьSmall improvement but miles away .
ОтветитьVery limited editions. The only benefit is writing Dax and table connections. There is no way I will consider abandoning Desktop
Just only with this light upgrade .
This is pretty major... any ideas on when we'll be able to use PowerQuery and edit the queries for each table from the service? (I know they already allow it for dataflows so surely shouldn't be too complicated)
ОтветитьIt looks like a great improvement. The automatically saved changes with no going back is tricky though. You need to validate changes before touching a production environment. Instead of validating on desktop, you’ll need an additional test environment in PBI service.
ОтветитьThis is a bit confusing. Are you saying that one can choose to not use PBI Desktop or simply that PBI Desktop would disappear ie become unavailable to all and sundry? Not everyone likes to go on a cloud-based browser version, a desktop app is quite nice and in fact better for those who work with actual computers. I hope Microsoft is not removing the desktop app altogether.
ОтветитьIt'll be a dream to use powerbi in my linux, also to have some sort of source control!
Ответитьthe only issue i have is git.
Can i download the pbix file?
my office computer is windows, but i often like to work remote at home on my own macbook computer. Does that mean that if I publish the datasource into PBI Service, I can create visuals on my macbook computer by logging into PBI service ?
ОтветитьFor sure PQ does.. you can undo steps without difficulty. Sorry.. not quite with you on this one ( a first). It will require a new workflow... version history and a development environment like WordPress.
ОтветитьSuper para hacer ajustes rápidos. Se viene en cambio al parecer, pero aún no es inminente el fin del desktop. Ya que no se puede hacer transformación de datos ni la extracción desde otros sitios que no sea excel.
ОтветитьI just studied and finished my first power BI Project and I see this lady posting by bye bye Power BI😒
ОтветитьHmm.. not quite with you on this one. No undo???? Automatic save? Undo is the MOST important button in development isn't it? This requires a development environment or extra datasets to test things out before going "live". Not too confident about this.
ОтветитьWhat a ridiculous video.
ОтветитьIf you look at this update combined with the new features related to Data Marts and Deplotment Pipelines, it does indeed look like Microsoft is moving in the direction of eliminating Power BI Desktop long term. However, Data Marts and Deployment pipelines being a premium feature will keep Desktop alive for the plebs 😂
ОтветитьIf we can move the entire service into the cloud it will be an AMAZING day.
ОтветитьI discovered this recently, and immediately requested PRO licenses for the whole team so we could all work on reports, instead of using SharePoint folders with no coauthoring. Now, working with published datasets in PBI Service, users can work simultaneously on reports with little to no issue. This has been revolutionary to us!
ОтветитьGood, Qlik sense has this from beginning.
ОтветитьYep maybe for a quick emergency fix at the dev stage of a deployment pipeline, but if you are in business you need basic backups version control and verification, so it is a big nope, imagine auto save on a big very valuable dataset that deletes a table, link or just changes a formula incorrectly. Nightmare
ОтветитьHmm, I’m good. The desktop isn’t like using iTunes.. there’s a good reasons to developing models on desktops .
ОтветитьFree User cannot apply model changes, upgrade to PowerBI Pro. Its time to buy PowerBI Pro.
ОтветитьCreate Dataset seems not possible (except excel, csv and manually entered data as known in the past), just edit is possible.
But i hope so that Power BI will be a fully cloud application.
Courious if Azure Data Studio and co will follow... And courius aboult all external Tools like Tabular Editor, DAX Studio and Co...
It's about time!!! If Google can do it then Microsoft should!
ОтветитьHopefully the online version isn't as absolutely horrible as the desktop version. Oh wait, I can't work online because I can't even use my MSFT email from my Office sub. What a ----ing joke. Makes me want to use Tableau.
ОтветитьI was listening to a podcast a while back (BIFocal, I think) in which a PBI PM (I forget who) was discussing PBI's web authoring features in a manner that made me think that Power BI will maintain both the Desktop and the web UI, similar to Office 365. Yesterday's pre-announcement from MS regarding the improved integration with OneDrive/SharePoint makes me hopeful that they ARE moving in that direction 😁
Also, anxious to find out what all the hubbub is about the scheduled PBI announcements during upcoming Build... 🤔
This is really awesome so excited to use this all options like web 🎉
Thanks
Nice option, i do hope that if you don’t have a paid license you still can keep using Power Bi in the future
Ответитьis this on paid powerbi version?
ОтветитьI may be missing it but there are lots of things it can't do yet from within the query editor. Great step in the right direction and can make some amends to the report whilst being mobile.
ОтветитьEditing is fine and I think this is great. Unless I am mistaken you cannot create a dataset from anything other than Excel, csv or manually entering data. Until we can connect to Dataflows and all other data sources, Power BI Desktop will have a place methinks.
ОтветитьDo you think they will implement versioning tools as Git?
If you edit the model online, can you still download it?
You'll still depend on Power BI Desktop, as at now, the last time I don't think you can open an excel workbook and work on it on Power BI server.
ОтветитьI dont see the data model setting in the workspace setting
ОтветитьIt's definitely not bye bye yet.
ОтветитьPower BI desktop is retiring? Any link to show ?
ОтветитьHi, Thanks for this video.
It is really great news. Any idea, how the gateways are handled when using on-premise data sources?
I'll have to try it. I have all my data on my computer so will have to figure out how to build datasets from OneDrive for Business or Sharepoint.
ОтветитьI definitely prefer desktop.
ОтветитьThis is amazing news 😀
I too second with you on your guess. There is high possibility that we will see co-authors, version control features all coming in near future releases and Yes, once this gets fully implemented we can be platform independent 🙌👍
Meh.. Until we web does not have full functionality, I will not use ir. I love my Tabular Editor 😁
ОтветитьYou scared me.... I love PBI desktop. I use it like Excel for quick analysis of smaller data sets that are too large for Excel.
ОтветитьThis is no go for me until they fix version handling and deployment pipelines.
Auto save is super dangerous.
Can users assigned to contributor role edit the data model? Is there any documentation for it?
ОтветитьThanks for your update..
