That's just the coolest vehicle. ❤
ОтветитьHypercar for it’s day
ОтветитьI have never really loved any cars of this era, but this is probably one of the coolest vehicles I have ever seen.
ОтветитьJay, Thank you for sharing this somewhat forgotten technology. I wonder if a school bus sized motor coach or portable cabin could run on wood generated steam and without any electricity or liquid petroleum fuels.
ОтветитьHey Jay, Thanks for the excellent "Steam Lesson" on The Gray and Red Nethercutt/Howard Hughes Doble." I still only have a very limited grasp of the Technology involved, so I'll need to view this video several more times I'm sure. I'm one of your Emerson Classmates from the Class of 1973, and we shared a very small Advanced Speech Class, during The Spring Semester, which was our last Term before graduating. June Hamlin Mitchell, was our Prof., and the class was in I believe the third floor "Bedroom/Classroom" in one of The Brownstone Buildings which at the time, were located across Beacon Street, from 130 Beacon, which was The Administration Building. Now of course, the College has bought many other buildings in The Boylston Street Area, including The Majestic Theatre, etc. Anyway, thanks, as always for your excellent Educational Approach to both automotive and motorcycle restorations and education for the rest of us "Laymen..." Ted Schempp, Nashville, TN.
ОтветитьOne of my favorites of jays collection.
ОтветитьThis is the coolest car
ОтветитьThank you Mr Leno's.
What was not realised with this model Double E-20 from 1925 is a perfect dry ice steam condenser with exhaust gas compressor and CO2 pressure accumulator. This was prevented by the internal combustion engine lobby.
With professional regards

I’m sure you hear this over and over but it needs to be said again. Jay you are an absolute treasure. I love watching your videos with my 2 sons we enjoy the history and are very grateful that you share it with us because you don’t have too. Just want to let you know we greatly appreciate it!
ОтветитьGreat Engineering! But Why did they build gasoline fired steam cars and not just gasoline powered cars?
ОтветитьI love your Doble. I was born in the mid 30s and have been a farmer so have some experience with steam power. I have a steam boilers license. Did drivers of steam cars need a boilers license?
ОтветитьThank you so much Jay! I have always wondered why steam cars did not last. Now I know more. My one big question is when will someone create a new steam powered car? Screw all this electric and hydrogen. You have fuel everywhere except in the desert.
ОтветитьIt is such a pity that this technology was not applied to steam locomotives which only really died out in the 70's - 40 years after the steam car died. If it had been applied to locomotives we would probably still have them running around now... Another "what could have been"...
ОтветитьRacingvatten haha🤣
Ответитьwould be nice to see a hydrogen fuel cell / steam hybrid
ОтветитьWould love to see steam come back when they ban internal combustion sales.
ОтветитьThis car amazes me. I would call it a pinnacle of steam engineering.
ОтветитьThe Devil drives steam cars, and steam tractors as well.
ОтветитьVery enjoyable , this is the first time I have seen a steam car . It is always a pleasure to be educated by Mr Leno. Thank you .
ОтветитьCon lo complicado que parece costaria mas que un auto convencional.Supongo que en esa epoca ya no eran practicos aunque no dejan de ser interesante
ОтветитьI would rather have a steam car then a electric car 😊
ОтветитьGreat fuel efficient technology in a fast 1920's steam car. I could get a speeding ticket today with it. Thanks for the video.
ОтветитьI wonder if in 2023 someone will refine this and make a 1000 mile per gallon of water car.
ОтветитьThanks for teaching us something new!
ОтветитьJay is the mf man
ОтветитьJay looks so spritely! Watching him talk about further issues with this car in 2023 it appears to have aged him a little. Such an amazing car and and even better man.
ОтветитьThanks a lot!!! I'm just in shock! I have no words!
ОтветитьThanks Jay that was clean technology, what a pity that it was not perceived in it.
ОтветитьI have faith in this car being modernized than ANY Ev. 🧐
ОтветитьNice
ОтветитьYou ruined it by putting disk brakes on it.
ОтветитьThank you Jay!!!!🙏 👌These videos have awesome content!!! 👏👏👏There should be a movie or a TV show on car makers, how they managed to reallze their projects, what circumstances made them succeed or not. Maybe, an analysis of characters, history, business and industry.
ОтветитьAwesome
ОтветитьIt’s an on demand hot water system
ОтветитьCould stream be a low tech Mr. Fusion?
Ответитьincredible car, i didn't know that the steam was so advanced and effective at the end of it era...
there's so many old and rare cars and/or technologies in your collection, and your passion for all this that your channel is gold...
I want one. I start building tomorrow
ОтветитьWhat? I didn’t know they exist.
ОтветитьJay…. Have you ever considered getting a reverse osmosis/de ionizing water filtration setup for your steam vehicles? Scale and any mineral deposits absolutely cripple efficiency as I’m sure you know. And now a days one could put a system to filter it to pure water for a reasonable amount. Just something to ponder. Appreciate the sharing of knowledge on these unique vehicles!….. oh, and the steam generator looks a lot like a modern ‘steam’ pressure washer steam generator (except those have 1 to maybe 4 rows of boiler tube coiled inside and are fired from the bottom)
ОтветитьIn my mind, Jay is not a car collector but an automotive museum person, like those people in archaeology doing restoration and preservation of ancient artifacts. He is creating a massive legacy for future generations.
ОтветитьYou answered my question about the scaling issue when you did the blow down.
ОтветитьDoes the water need to be conditioned to avoid scaling?
ОтветитьWould love a set of plans for that generator and drivetrain.
ОтветитьMy favorite car that you own.
ОтветитьImagine a steam engine made to modern standards.
ОтветитьThat's what I love about Jay. He wants to drive them priceless cars, not just have them sit around. I think that's what makes them MOST valuable. The fact that they do drive and are driven. Even improvements like the brakes are welcome.
ОтветитьAmazing vehicle, just one question. How do you back up with no transmission?
Ответить139.8 mph is the present land speed record for a steam powered vehicle currently held by the British! Don't you think even your Stanley Steamer style engine with the bigger steam generator could easily top that? Your 1925 Doble E-20 you said did 132.5 mph in 1925 by Howard Hughes. Do you suppose an aerodynamically clean car using a Doble style steam generator and engine could easily go even 10 mph faster? It's time for you Jay, to sponsor an American effort at the record with a car you have built in your facility by your knowledgeable crew members. What a kick that would be for all of us that enjoy your videos and projects to see your car become the world record holding car with you as its sponsor.
ОтветитьFirst time watching a whole episode .... very good show... and I forgot how funny Jay Leno was ... I loved watching the tonight show as a kid and then being brainwashed by Howard Stern to disliking Jay Leno..... I am definitely going to watch more episodes ....
