Back in 2013 My wife was dealing with a local dealer to buy me a Rolex Submariner Oystersteel and yellow gold with a blue face and dial. 2 days before she was going to buy it I was in a fairly serious work accident that has left me with a permanent disability. I went from making $75,000 - $80,000 per year to $11,000 per year. I told her not to buy it as my kids and wife comes first. It was always her dream to buy me a Rolex. She recently passed away from cancer at 54 years old. She was still dreaming of buying me one even as she took her last breath. Now owning a Rolex just isn't important anymore. Hang on to what is important. Material things just are not important anymore.

I’d never pay above retail for a watch. In fact, I’d haggle with the ad or look pre owned to have it for 20-30% off sticker price. Rolex is out of it’s mind and so are the morons paying so much above retail.

Grand Seiko is the favorite watch brand I own. The fact that some under play them a bit is why I love them. True watch fans know! But GS’s presence in the world has definitely been raising as of late! I was in a dark club in Scottsdale and had a dude come up to me to compliment my GS. Pretty cool moment imo

Milgauss will always be upsetting to me - I wanted one when they were 5k, when I had 5k they had gone up to 7k, before I was in a place where I would spend 7k on a watch they discontinued them and now theyre 13k.

I would never pay over mrsp for rolex. So these guys make a fortune. Id rather wait take a great vacation wait to get a rolex and nevef pay over mrsp. Cant people pay over mrsp for a rolex or any other luxury watch

I didn't grow up in a 'watch' family and I'm really thankful for that. I have no reverence for these brands at all, I can judge them dispassionately. Rolexes are fucking ugly as fuck and deeply uninteresting. God help you all.

A view from the UK. Can someone tell me why the Grand Seiko is compared to full mechanical watches, it's a quartz movement for $6500. Don't be stupid. If you want a quartz watch buy a Casio. Seiko here in the UK is seen purely as a high street brand alongside Timex or Sekonda.
People that praise the Grand Seiko really don't know quality mechanical movements, they buy one because other idiots do. All the Japs do is miniaturise everything. BTW, do Bulgari, (Vulgari in the UK), make their own movements?

Somebody needs to start pushing back on stainless steel watches selling for over 2.5k. I have no problem with watches with cases made of more noble metals selling for higher prices. They have intrinsic worth. Stainless steel watches are dime a dozen and don't need to be expensive like they are right now. Enough of this madness.

I was all in on the watches until they started on the yager miester and the jungle juice.

My collection consists of one daily driver I no longer want to have watches that look great in a watch winder I much rather have it looking good on my wrist. I actually went from a Panerai to a Cartier Santos XL chronograph and I absolutely love it, but I see myself going back to Rolex soon.
