I mean I get his delusions in a way. When you work your ass off, and your life's goal is to be champion, it's a hard pill to swallow that you simply aren't as good as the elite talent. The idea that you're going to be a career journeyman, or at best a gatekeeper, would be heart breaking to accept; I bet it would be extremely hard to stay motivated. It's much easier to say that someone else got lucky, or you had an off night, than it is to say that you are simply inferior to them. He is definitely a delusional human being, I just think it's complicated. It's his coping mechanism, he needs to believe that he is as good as the elite guys in his division in order to stay motivated.
