I always tell people that David really does these things, and they don't believe me. But I've been doing magic for years now, and I just have always known that David was a superhuman. His mind over matter mentality is the most insane thing anyone's ever seen.

If I was the frog, I would feel honored for the rest of my frog life.

It's incredible how he starts vomit all the water that ve been drinking and then spits the toad into Joe's hands, instantly regrets everything and then he just wanted to break some handcuffs that were there.

I love David, but one thing I’ve really noticed especially in his 2020 reaction type doc w celebrities, is that they are often visibly uncomfortable w doing or watching things to do w his body, & the reaction isn’t really good, bc it’s not that they don’t believe he can do it, it’s that it goes “beyond magic” & the vast majority of people who like magic, want to know that it’s a trick, to quote The Prestige…”they want to be fooled.” He doesn’t want to fool anyone, he wants to show what the human mind & body are capable of enduring, under the right circumstances. I think that’s a great, really positive message to send, or market to the right audience who does want to see it or try it on him. Joe is a real professional, but it’s so obvious he didn’t want to do the ice pick, & David PROVED why, by stopping & saying you’re hitting a nerve, but let’s go again. That wasn’t enjoyable for Joe, he did it bc he knew how much David wanted him to.

David is incredible, & I love the overarching message that you can achieve something if you want to, w willpower & the right team of professionals around you. My critique though, is that he needs to pay more attention to people’s boundaries. Joe didn’t not believe the ice pick was real, he just very visibly & audibly didn’t want to do it. I think David needs to know when to say that’s okay, I respect your comfort zone.

I’m starting to understand why Penn & Teller are friends / friendly w him, but disagree on him calling himself a magician. It gets to a point where it’s not fun to watch, & you realise it’s David’s personal thrill of what he can push himself to do. That’s not magic, & he doesn’t claim it to be, but in the now digital age we’re living in, it doesn’t really matter if he still combines those things w “magic”, bc it only blurs the lines more than he’s already blurred them. If it’s that freaky for grown adults, then what is this doing to his daughter. Is anyone else worried for her? This is her DAD. Her hero. He could leave her fatherless, which he openly admits to when he nonchalantly says sure, I could die, like it’s nothing. I don’t really know where he’s going with this. When does he go back to magic, so people can have fun knowing it’s NOT real? I miss that street kid version of David. Making people happy, not scared, uncomfortable, or worried for him. He’s always laughing - but it’s not funny anymore, it’s too real because it is real. He’s proven that. Why does he have to keep proving it?

Props to Joe for sticking this out, he’s such a great interviewer. He didn’t even like the motorbike thing. I think he’d prefer David be late, than knowing he’s speeding through traffic on a bike, which is just as deadly. If you’ve read this far, lmk - is he pushing it now? Should he keep going or “just” stick to magic? How do you feel about his daughter w this? (Or any kids watching). “Don’t get too cocky” - famous last words.
