That first story was terrifying… like they got threatened to be shot, and on top of that that couple that told them to grab any pumpkin they want was scary. Like I can’t imagine that

i grew up in woodstock (where overlook mountain and the garden cafe are, not catskill) and the third story smacks of the kind of rural poor stereotypes some people buy into when they watch one dumb horror movie and have never spent a night out in the woods. these people never even saw their "attackers" and the conclusion they jump to of it being a human trafficking attempt is laughable, as well of their absolute certainty that it was connected to their "creepy" encounter with a socially awkward woman. There are a lot of "characters" in my hometown, and if any of them had been trying to find "victims" i and many of my friends would have been great choices taking long solo nighttime walks along the side of the road as a teen. incidentally airbnb and other short-term rentals have created a housing crisis in the region, driving up rent and forcing many local working-class people out of homes they've lived in for years. if either of these people were actually harmed, or even threatened with harm instead of spiraling because someone knocked on the door, it would be a different story. but if some locals decided to mess around with the tourists and managed to scare them out of town, that's pretty funny and i wish i'd heard this story back when i lived with my parents because there were SO many walking distance airbnbs i could have fucked with.
