Lizst has to be one of my favorite pianists. He can make very complex pieces but make them sound super good musically as well.

Sorry to say, Buniatishvili's Mephisto is dreadful. This kind of performances are the reason why so many people disregard Liszt as a flashy, superficial composer, when the truth is he never loses musicality in pursuit of virtuosity.

I straight up started crying at the Horowitz. Thought I was being too sensitive but then read down and it looks like we're all crying in the comment section 😭

Evgeny Kissin is my favorite pianist.

He has so much emotion.

I love his performance of Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in G Minor. And that was an encore!

That concept of being enveloped by the orchestra and merging literally into the music is my ideal heaven.

Absolutely the WORST performance of the Mephisto Waltz I’ve ever seen. Where did she get the idea that Liszt wanted the piece to be played as fast as humanly possible? It’s just a blur of notes devoid of all nuance, phrasing, and expression.

In the Schubert his body did change.... you have to approach the note differently, with a different weighting and above all listen to the sound BETWEEN the notes. Very few pianists practice that.... I remember doing a masterclass and was asked to do it. Being a practitioner of NLP I just went straight into it, and the teacher was astonished. He said he could not get his other students to do that. What I heard when I listened to the sound between the notes and played the notes almost as an afterthought, was a completely different result. It was amazing! To a certain extent you have to abandon yourself to the music, and this includes some of the heavier elements of your own hands/biology. If you let go of your weight and let it fall through your body to the floor, what you have left is a lightness of touch which defies your expectations.

My Rachmaninoff concerto No.2 THE guy is Vladimir Ashkenazy, hands down. And of course, there is a recording of Rachmaninoff playing the Concerto himself.
Mikhail Pletnev Mozart Piano Concerto No.23, especially 2nd movement.
For Bach piano pieces -Piotr Anderszewski
Chopin "Winterwind" - Hayato Sumino
Matzuev is my least favourite, I also listened him live. Too aggressive playing, in my opinion, and it undermines the actual music piece. Anyway, just my opinion.
