Can a DJ avoid COPYRIGHT CLAIMS on Instagram, Facebook & YouTube Live Streams?

Im with all the others. I pay subscriptions to all kinds of stuff … why not a DJ streaming license that sends the money to whoever it needs to and pays them. I dont monetize and also feel like it shouldnt matter if i play or not due to the fact im not making money from it!

Last i checked DJs PROMOTE!! PROMOTE MUSIC! How is a DJ supposed to play? All his/her tracks? Sounds kinda narcissistic to me!!

One trick to mix faster I'd say using hot cues specially in EDM tracks to skip from Drop 1 to drop 2 and outro... using effects and remixes instead of originals also help out and not playing exactly in the tone so boost or decreaze a little the bpm with master tempo off (forget about mixing in key for obvious reasons)

Yeah sony blocked one of my mixes for 20seconds of a track ...
I played the whole track I don't understand why it was struck for only 20seconds of it..

there is a way to sort this, the social media companies stop being dicks and saying people are committing copyright when they are not as copyright only means claiming something as yours when it belongs to someone else not playing tracks. no one is infringing upon anyones rights when streaming a dj set, when in reality all they are doing is giving free advertising for the artist that made the track

Here in Chicago, we play a lot of House Music. It isn't copyright restricted. Too many DJs and producers are making great party music from all over the world. Africa, Europe, Germany, Asia, South America, Chicago and all over the United States... Plenty of underground House Music. We don't rely on giving free publicity to the mainstream. We help the underground artists that eventually many windup being asked to do special remixes for mainstream artists. This whole change to seeing DJs as enemies, that are just having free fun in their basements, bedrooms, living rooms or music rooms they've set up... That's hurting the industry themselves. Your music isn't being heard and then bought on iTunes by those that hear it in the mix. We aren't making money unless we are hired for gigs. Facebook is free fun for a DJ. Mainstream can continue to be less relevant, because the underground is thriving, and that's in part because of the mainstream industry restrictions. We DJs in Chicago thank you!

If you name the songwriter, artist and the song name, they can't put a strike on you as far as i know. Or am i wrong?

Mixcloud has licenses, you pay a monthly fee for the Pro plan (around 12 bucks), then you can stream your live sets and upload your recorded mixes without limit. free plan just allows you to upload a certain amount of mixes and no live streaming. Mixcloud just needs to get known more

No unless you are playing tracks you made yourself

Yeah, I've tried old stuff and it doesn't seem to matter. Went back to 1993-1999 trance/techno and did fast mixing and got muted or kicked fast. Went back to 1980's Chicago house and got booted within a few bars of French Kiss. Changed speeds, layered, added loops, tried remixes, doesn't matter. I think they have improved the bots ability to spot what is being played.

Very frustrating when I am just figuring this streaming thing out to hear all the ways I can't steam effectively. I just want to post videos of my sets in the garage as a way to give my potential clients an example of how I might sound dj'ing their event. I don't plan on monetizing my videos directly. They would just be lead generators.

I only play live for my friends Europe and Africa so when they come on it turns red .I only want to play live I don’t want to save it . I have some they didn’t do anything to and some after a hour of live music red I just start over again . I would play for six hours every Saturday and Sunday in Balboa Park in San Diego.

How long per song? What’s your “fly through”

When you say "speed through" are we talking 30 secs/song, 15 secs/song, starting in the middle of songs, etc?

Raise or lower the samplerate (timestretch) of the song with 5% or more will do the trick for most of all the songs to avoid claims

Great video. Only two questions. What does it exactly mean ,,flying through music,, from your perspective? Are we talking like about 30 seconds per one song? Second question. Have you ever also tried to play remixes created by random djs/producers so the algorithm would possibly have no clue? 🤷

Super late with this, but I had this issue a last year with the muting and booting of my streams on FB. It's just over a year later and I am still periodically getting emails about the stream getting muted in certain locations or it was released and so on.. I wonder how long they are gonna keep going on with this. But, I also never thought about the play/mix faster option. I love old school 80's/90's house and freestyle and it's so hard for me sometimes to not let the song ride. Ya learn everyday.

With dj live streaming on twitch you can get away with it as long as you delete the VOD straight after so there is no evidence
