When I focus on kovaak's my tracking is basically perfect on this one scenario. Problem is I can only focus for like 10 seconds max before I zone out

The best way to aim is to play a game where there's actual effort in the art direction in making characters use a different palette than the background.
And not playing on an itty bitty screen

Apex was the game that made me discover this. While i have had a very hard time being consistent with this in the past i still instantly improved just from noticing it being a thing. I don't play games that hard anymore and i just don't care about ranks that much, but i do sometimes try to tap into the focus and notice it gets considerably worse if you don't practice it consistently.

Yes! Ive noticed that, and it makes a real significant difference... see it, track it, and will it. The title is adequate. :)

When it comes to team based games, the players you have in your team are really important. I personally like driving the team, making plans, hearing plans, strategizing, making call outs, and asking for equipment checks: do you have enough ammo? How are your attachments looking? What ranges of engagement we got? Who needs meds? Reload, reload, reload.

Learn the call outs and practice when to use them, you would be surprised how much better you and your team does when your all engaging in the game and constantly assessing the situation.

Pro tip edit:

Practice your faults.

If you have a hard time with something, put yourself in a position to do it more, as much as possible.

Having a hard time in looting and moving on in apex? Drop hot. Force yourself into a situation where you can't do that. Get used to looking at a pile of sht on the floor and fighting your way out of the city with it.

Wait! That explains why I feel the game slows down sometimes. I mostly play at work when I game (Yes, I game at work on my steam deck or switch during my 1hour lunch and 2 15mins breaks) so I usually play without sound, The FPS game I have been "playing"(starting to be an obsession) lately "Overwatch 2". I usually play Genji, widow, doom, echo, ana and hanzo (sometimes Life Weaver if our tank is getting diffed). The slow-mo usually happens when I am getting diff by a random widow or ashe. After a few deaths, 4 to 5, I get used to the range, where I can poke, the distance it takes before the projectile speed drops off, and how they behave. Is my opponent a flight or fight person when I apply pressure? are they dodging movements in a linear path, or do they strafe at different intervals? It is like you can see everything, well, until I get 1 tap by junk or doom from the back. Now that I think about it, isn't this not the "Flow" state?

I compare it to riding a skateboard. When you want to turn, you're not necessarily actively thinking about your feet, you're just watching where you want to turn and your body does it almost on its own. I find aiming in shooters to be similar, instead of focusing on your crosshair you should focus on your enemy and you'll naturally move your crosshair onto them.

Great video. I used to play Ut2k4 with crosshair only, focusing only on aiming and movement, with subconscious tracking of ammo depletion. I knew it was working when weapon autoswitched just as I was expecting it - counting shots without thinking. I wish more modern games used HUDless views!

this is why i always say graphics are meaningless. when i do this everything kinda goes blurry, its just general shapes. formless even... just places i can move, orientations when i can click my mouse.
playing with audio muted is a great tip, but im hyper-casual so prob wont ever do it 😅

I don't play FPS games but I get into competitive play with Rhythm and action-puzzle games too, a lot of the things covered in this video are in line what I've been experiencing in my own games too.

When people ask me why I play FPS games on controller, this. Being able to actually focus on what you're doing is important, but one thing I always found to help that process is to be comfortable. And for me, a PlayStation controller will always be more comfortable than keyboard and mouse.

Of course, I can learn different control schemes to be more optimal, but at the same time keyboard typers can learn a different layout for easier typing. But they will probably stick to the most common qwerty layout regardless.

When you're comfortable in your own skin, your limitations are less of an issue because you've dealt with them the most.

I do have a question.
Do you think turning off the crosshair in game, helps focusing on the enemy in a way you stop to think if your crosshair lines up?

for those who don't believe the "true focus makes you feel like playing in slow motion" is actually very true, any geometry dash player can confirm that. everytime i beat a level and watch back my footage i always can't believe the game was playing at that speed that seemed way faster for what i was actually playing. this applies to literally everything
