1) The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 is a front engine all wheel drive car which was only made for one production, 2006.

2) The evo 9 is powered by a turbocharged 2 liter inline 4 cylinder 4G63 engine. This engine produces 286hp and 289tq.

3) All evo 9’s came a with manual transmissions, no automatics were available.

4) The evo 9 has a slightly larger turbo than the evo 8

5) The evo 9 has variable valve timing known as (MIVEC) Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system. MIVEC was not available in any Evo 8's.

6) 2006 was the last model year the Lancer Evolution used the 4g63 engine.

7) Special Edition or “se” trims evo 9’s included red stitched recaro seats, a new airdam extension (front lip), HID headlights, and some diamond black finish BBS wheels.

8) One of the easiest ways to spot an evo 9 from an evo 8 is the difference design of the front bumper cover.

9) RS trim evo 9’s did everything in the way of weight saving. This means manual windows and locks, no radio, no sound deadening, no ABS, and no rear wing. Also, all RS trims had an aluminum roof, front limited slip differential, black door handles and black mirrors.


10) The Evo8 has a strong rear wing than the evo9. See the evo 9 rear wing has plastic inner side pieces while all the evo 8’s have carbon fiber inner side pieces. (another good way to tell an evo 8 from an evo9) Also, the evo 8 wings center section is filled with an expansion foam of some kind while the 9 wing is empty inside.


bonus fact. The Evo 9 transmission gear ratio was slightly different than the evo 8. The evo 9 ran a taller 1st gear but a shorter 3, 4, and 5 gear. Many evo enthusiast consider the “ultimate gear ratio” to be a combination of the two gear sets.
