is it better to have a bigger hook to catch 'larger' fish or does this not matter? I would like to fish with a rod but I catch around 40+ on a day very very small fish..

I love living in America, we got stocked public spots. Basically any state or government owned land that isn't a designated breedery, or nature preserve. And we have easements with bodies of water close to privet owned property. Basically if it's accessible by public waterway, and your not crossing obvious property lines, your mostly okay. But this is mostly for boat anglers, that go far up or down stream. But it still is good to ask, and most people are okay with it, at least in my state.

Tbh for bank fishing you just need a fishing rod and maybe a fishing net, as well as some bait, like bread.

Don't bother, after buying a Licence fishing will cost £22 per night at my local lake. Almost as much as the rent on a one bedroom flat!. What an absolute joke!
