Thanks Justine for a great review, as a fellow paper crafter I would love to see what you create with the X tool. I am very interested in something like this. I have already made one failed kickstarter purchase of a laser…. And the issues you have pointed out for 1st xtool are the same as I have had.

Can it cut on round objects? Like a Stanley? Do you need a special holder/ attachment for that?

Hi! Thank you for this. Ive been back and forth between the aura and the m1. I have a few questions. I'd appreciate it if you would answer.
1. What kind of surface does it need to sit on?
2. Does it have a live camera where you can see the material in real time?
3. You did not have to mask anything? Im mainly going to be cutting wood.
4. Does the xtool software have a robust library of images that are free to use? Similar to the glowforge or cricut where you can search for images or projects?
5. If i have something that is already made (an earring blank that has been cut into a shape), can the machine take a picture or scan it so i can create the sams shape?

I love the machine but adding the air purifier is a bit too much for my pocket! I’ll just have my Levoit air purifier (filters up to 1900 sq ft) next to the machine and it’ll probably be fine. It works for me when I cook and smoke!

First thing you need to say is "hey this thing costs 1500 bucks " so people can just skip the video

Great machine, but honestly, $AU1750 is way outside my budget.

I would rather not waste my time watching a machine that most people could not afford but you were given free of charge

Crafter or machine operator?

if you have a project and you use automated machines to make them, then they are just projects not crafts any more. the idea of craftingis that it is done by hand. lol i bet this is usefull but negates the arts or crafts part of any of your work.

I have friends that use the Cricut but I have used the Silhouette machine for several years. I have the Cameo 4 so I will be looking for a review that will include Silhouette Design Studio software. Hi Justine, thanks for the honest review. I hadn't even heard of this machine and it has me thinking of all the possibilities for my craft space. You know, thinking of all the different crafts I do and will this be a worthwhile investment or not. I looked online for pricing and I see there are two models. Which model are you using? The 10W or the 5W?

I love the advent calendar ! Can you tell me where you found the file. I have the xtool d1 and with the hurdles I had to climb, it is working out okay for me.

As a laser owner….my only caution is to be sure you understand what you can and can’t cut…I thought it would be great to cut vinyl…it has to be laser safe! But if this is something you can work into your budget…I say go for it. It is really easy to use, you can creat ENDLESS amounts of items, and you will love it.

I would love to have this so that I could make some wood projects for crafting and I LOVE the fact that you made a storage stand! I have a few storage display things out of foam board but it is very hard to get precision cuts (at least for me). His would be a game changer!

I've been looking around at various crafting machines and have seen the Xtool before but not in the configuration you have demonstrated. This one looks great. My only question is this: Do you HAVE to have an internet connection to use the machine? I'm guessing I might need the internet to do a one time download of the software and instruction information but will I need that internet connection just to use the machine (like one of the other big names in laser cutters requires!)?

In USA the price of the XTool M1 10W basic is currently on offer at $999 . In the UK the same model is on offer at £1149 (= $1423). I'll wait. Good review!!

Excellent, thorough, well thought out review Justine. You always hit it out of the park with your instructions. Thank you. I probably will not use this as I am a paper crafter, but it is very interesting to see what it can do. For me the pluses are ease of use (10/10), no sticky mat needed (that to me is the biggest irritation with cutting machines). Negatives: needing an air filter and price. This is more expensive than a 65” TV. If they can bring the price down it might be more of a temptation. You can get small 3D printers for under $500. You did a fantastic job with that advent calendar. You are part teacher, part artist, part engineer!

Where did you get the various projects? Is there a fee to download projects like the Advent Calendar (which looks like it took someone a long time to design)? Cricut has an annual fee for their graphics, is there the same thing for this tool? Love your channel. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Thanks for the thorough review! Of the laser machines I've seen demoed, this one seems to be the most compact and affordable of the bunch. As a purely paper-based crafter, this one isn't for me but for a multi-media crafter or someone with or looking to start a homemade business this could be a good option. I am always interested in new tools, whether or not they are for me, so I appreciate the time and effort you put into the review.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.
I have had a Cricut for over 8 years (5 th anniversary) and it is still sitting there. I have used it twice. The second time I plugged it it it smoked and burned up the motor. I live in Costa Rica and the landlord said the whole house was on a surge protector and as it turned out it was installed incorrectly. She refused to cover my expense. So I bought another special edition and sorry to say, I am intimated by it. I need to sit down sometime and actually learn how to use it considering I have over 50 cartridges.
