Turns Out YouTube Didn’t Slow Down Ad Blocker Users. Adblock and Adblock+ Did.

I'm gonna go ahead and call bullshit. Google are absolutely 100% fucking with adblock users, but just in a sneakier way. There is a solid second-long delay when typing comments if adblock is on.

You state it's a false rumor but then just talk about ads being annoying instead of even alluding to any evidence or admittance that adblock is the one doing the slowing down. It's very suspicious when this correction has less proof going for it than the rumor. So either this is nonsense, or just uninformative. And either of those makes this a bad video. Thankfully I did not have to watch an ad in order to watch this, so I don't feel too robbed for my time.

They are also slowing down the comments AS WELL. As a fan vidder I have a VERY unique experience of this site. I upload fan vids (using copyrighted clips/music) FOR FUN. I don’t get paid, I don’t expect to get paid. But SOMEHOW yt alerted me that ads WILL run on my videos. Huh? But ok….idc either way.

But I just type my comments in MW then copy paste into the comment area. Problem solved. And as a protest I just stopped using YT all together and for a month just binge watched movies/tv shows that I have. I don’t believe in ‘you will own nothing and you will be happy’. The hand that feeds can also starve you. Even Netflix is saying they are gonna run ads. You pay them, and they still run ads!? Netflix is owned by Amazon, jeff bozo has a yacht to get to his super yacht, but he can’t pay his workers. RIIIIIIIGHT. *extreme eye roll and side eye*

So after my little protest, that I’m sure MANY OTHER USERS joined in on. YT kinda stopped it. Now if you are a heavy user….hear me out…you are probably online for FREE entertainment. You are TOO BROKE to buy any of what they are advertising to you anyways. ALSO they run THE SAME AD 50x which is hella annoying. I will GO OUT OF MY WAY TO NOT BUY THAT SH!T I’ll tell you THAT much. I am subbed to a podcaster that HE HIMSELF, AT THE END OF HIS VIDEOS, does an ad read. It’s so pleasant that I watch it. And consider a purchase. I watch the vid and I’ll STAY for the ad. It’s like watching tv, and another show comes on and you decide, what the heck, I’ll watch THIS TOO. YT gotta use their brains and STOP GATEKEEPING VIDEOS. ENTERTAINMENT can be anything these days. WE WILL GO ELSEWHERE. Your traffic will go down, and then you make ZERO DOLLARS.

It reminds me of inflation. A LOT of ppl just DIDN’T BUY certain foods if they WENT ABOVE a certain price point. These companies WERE HUMBLED and BROUGHT DOWN THE PRICES. FOOD EXPIRES so if people don’t buy, you toss the food, along with ANY PROFITS. So they started using their brains REAL QUICK and lowered the prices. I am ok with some prices going up, but double the price!? GTFOH!!!!!

Am I missing the part of the video where the real bug is discussed? It's not a long video, but I think I keep getting distracted when it happens. It feels like the video is mostly describing what ads are, with just a couple of mentions that the bug is caused by the extensions. What was the bug? How did they find out? Was it fixed? My mind apparently skips past all these details when I watch this very short video.

I'm still blaming Google. They're responsible somehow.

YT (and others) is forcing you to install an Adblocker.

Wow, that is amazing since of the vast number of different ad blockers, ad muter's, and auto ad skippers, they all had the exact same bug. How can this be ????? And, another amazing thing. Let's say that you have 5 YT channels, and 1 of them is the one you use the most. Isn't it amazing that this slow down or freeze problem will only occur on that 1 particular YT channel, as in my case. An AMAZING bug that can detect just 1 YT channel of the 5. How do they do it ???

Whether it's true or not. A 5 second delay is better than 30+ seconds of advertisement.

What creator economy? Creators are forced to rely on external sources of income (like Patreon) because of how shit YT's policies are. Not to mention different rules for different creators.

Nah, it's YT messing up. I use uBlock and also constantly have to tinker around.
Sometimes YT would block videos, then I'd use user agent to spoof my browser as Chrome and it would work.

On the other hand. on same YT acc but on another PC (also Win10 and the same Firefox version) videos play like usual.

AdBlock might have had some incompatibility but it's on YT we have to resort to ad blockers in the first place (ads on YT are not only annoying because they interrupt videos - they are outright disgusting and false advertising).

BTW: YT has no business using so much CPU when it's idle and the tab is not in focus (with or without adblock active).

so just use Ublock Origin, aka the good one. and stop using chromium-based browsers, they nerfed their addon capabilities. Brave might be the exception since they build their own ad/tracker blocker but I'm not sure.

It isn’t misinformation, they definitely are slowing things down. Just use the service and see for yourself. It impacts desktop users using a full browser (i.e. not chrome) It’s still happening. Even with a premium account. It happens on multiple browsers, but loads just fine in chrome.

The only problem is people using shitty adblockers. I use uBlock origin and i never even saw one of those messages neither did i experience any slowdown.
