Nicole, you discussed using Readwise to collect clips/highlighted items + your annotations from pdf files, to send to Obsidian for your PKMS.
What do you use for doing the same with EPUB files?
Usage
I read a lot of medical journals (mostly PDFs) & books from a gazillion fields (I'm curious), everything from geopolitics to medicine, science fiction to philosophy. Most of this stuff is EPUB books, 'though some are also PDFs.
I'd love one app "to rule them all": do EPUB and PDF both. I fear I'm going to be disappointed. But I'll wager you do access both file formats. What works?
Hardware platforms
I'm working on a Windows desktop laptop/tablet (hybrid), and an Android tablet. So it'd be nice to be able to use the same software on both platforms. I know you do this too, but suspect a lot of your reading is done on an iPad. I've avoided Apple's ecosystem (got off it 7-8 years ago). I'm more likely to add a Boox eReader instead of an Apple tablet. We'll see.
Finally, I like the idea of handwriting with a stylus to take notes. Not sure how realistic this is. For lectures, though, it would be ideal. My Samsung tablet (Fold phone, actually) does a pretty credible job of converting handwriting on the fly to text. It'd be nice if a note-taking app offered that kind of input, but I think that's still bleeding-edge & not too practical. Plus it means palm rejection is crucial, and while my Fold smartphone is pretty good using core apps like Samsung's Notes app, I think palm rejection in many 3rd party apps still sucks. And I don't think handwriting conversion is even offered in Notion & Obsidian on Android tablets.
Any thoughts? I'll keep scanning your vids to see if you've already addressed these issues.
Thank you for sharing your passions & talents with such enthusiasm!
Hi do you have a video how to find and install plugins ?
ОтветитьYou mention code a lot in this video - do you need to be able to code to use Obsidian?
ОтветитьThanks for sharing mam.
Ответитьnerd
Ответитьalternate title: turning obsidian into notion.
ОтветитьGreat video! Thanks.
ОтветитьCloud softwares may not have official apps to sync between mobile devices, but MetaCtrl has apps for many of these clouds with multiple options to sync files.
ОтветитьHot take: Mörk Börg is the vaporwave remix of the queen of the damned soundtrack turned into an RPG.
ОтветитьThank you for your video
ОтветитьI know this video is kind of old, but in case of someone haven't found another solution: I use Onedrive to store my md files through all my devices, and Onesync, to automatically update/sync them. I didn't find any issues so far. I hope it's of use. Also, thank you for all the Obsidian videos, they are incredibly helpful!
Ответитьwhy do you don't use github for sync?
ОтветитьYour videos have pushed me back into "excitement mode" when it comes to learn and adopt a technology! Thank you so much - you are a true role model for "working/learning/sharing/thinking out loud" 🙏
ОтветитьI am new to your channel. I have just watched your video. I really like your clear and consize wording (no exceessive words needed), just to the point information share. Thank you. Will watch more :)
ОтветитьYou speak my language. Thanks for the great video.
ОтветитьGreat video, Nicole! 😀
Ответитьi think this is Work-related Top-10 Obsidian Pluggin(more specifically work that involves Programming etc).
didn't saw any necessary Pluggins that is for Casual users 🫤
You can use icloud to do real time sync in different kind of devices? I assume it works only on ios?
ОтветитьA free alternative to Obsidian Sync is SyncThing(Android)/SyncTrayzor(Windows)/syncthing-macos(MacOS). For iPad, I suppose you could set up a file server or directly connect to a local host to load and save simply enough, too.
ОтветитьMy plugin recommendations on top of those listed in the video:
- Replace Tasks (internal Task Management) with Todoist Plugin and let Todoist handle all the task management. Yes, todoist is a premium service, but it also integrates seamlessly with other things, like Google Calendar, and many others. Note: I still use Calendar + Daily notes inside obsidian to note down important events / as a journal. Just not for task management. (Edit: todoist also integrates with Zotero. You can create new tasks from newly added books/papers in Zotero. This feature of also integrating with Zotero was the final straw that made me switch to todoist).
- Banners is a fun little plugin to give your notes a bit more style, much like Evernote does. Totally unnecessary, but very pleasing to the eye.
- QuickAdd Plugin allows you to create custom commands (executed from the command palette). Commands can be Macros or Adding a new file from a Template in a specific folder, then opening the new file. It can do this specific thing better than Templater plugin because you can specify a location.
- Commander Plugin. Creates custom clicky-buttons anywhere in the Obsidian UI - but most probably in the Side Menu with the other buttons - and lets you execute ANY command from the command palette when clicking on them. Especially useful with the QuickAdd plugin.
I wanted to get into obsidian. all I did was watch one of your videos and I think after that I immediately got it. it's not that hard to use, it's just not super obvious. and since I already talk in markdown due to discord and misskey, I felt pretty much right at home writing in markdown.
ОтветитьNice! Also for syncing you can setup this cool piece of software called syncthing. It sync's everything near instantly. Its slightly technical to setup, but the syncing is amazing.
Ответитьlol, I installed some of these, and now I don't even know how to access them... very confusing app
ОтветитьR.I.P. Notion
ОтветитьHow did you make your links look like that? looks very cool!
ОтветитьThank you, best regards!
ОтветитьCan you add "close similar tabs"? Hahaha promotion, pseudo 1C0D, (it's a zero not a o). And I highly recommend you "contextual comments" if you are coding. To comment uncomment in codeblocks in obsidian.
ОтветитьKanban is not just the default todo doing done thing. The heart of Kanban is „kaizen“ meaning basically „constant improvement“. The way you are using it is totally valid in Kanban. And the approach you don’t like is basically just one way of using it. And the reason you don’t like it is because it’s not the right method for you. So whatever board style works for you is totally legit Kanban
ОтветитьExcelent video,as a novice I Was looking for some advice over recommended plugins. Thanks!
ОтветитьWish I saw this before. So many useful plugins.
ОтветитьQuestion:
With Templater installed, is there any reason to also install the core Templates plugin?
I think this video may have cemented the deal on whether I should migrate from OneNote (which is really nice, but also really annoying) to Obsidian or Joplin.
Ответитьdoes icloud even work on samsung? Interesting
ОтветитьDo you know wether there’s a plugin to convert your notes to pdf on ipad?
Ответитьlove you videos! I am just getting started with obsidian and your stuff is so great!
ОтветитьYou can use syncthing to sync your files ;-)
ОтветитьWhat is Telegram Logo doing in the Thumbnail ?⁉️
ОтветитьAHHHHGGG! I don’t know anything about coding....This seems like so much work.... ugh...
ОтветитьJust letting you know, syncthing is an open source way of syncing files between devices. Works on windows, iOS, Linux, android. 100% free, just takes maybe 10min to set up compared to obsidian sync taking one click but once it's set up it's no maintenance
Ответить@Nicole , aren't you losing the whole futureproof element of using md files, by basing your system around dataview plugins or java script?
Migrating to another software in the future would result in your notes turning into a mess a bit, no?
Also, would love to understand from you why is there a preference to markdown files, where OPML is also highly popular and a "standard" (just a form of XML, easily converted as text), and provides natural outlining in a far more smooth way than the experience with the outline plugin (as is clear from using dynalist, workfloy, logseq)?
I'm just starting to use obsidian, thanks for this list :)
ОтветитьClever girl! Thank you so much!
