We love Churros! Saw your video about Chicolat and Churros...we flew to Madrid just to have those wonderful and delicious Churros!. We walked 2 hours just to find that restaurant....we found it!
ОтветитьJust came from 2 weeks in Spain . Honestly, was not impressed with food. Porc, porc, porc, lots of fried food. My stomach was not happy. Love good jamon but not every day. Thank god for Argentinian and Italian places.

ОтветитьJames forgot to mention that Cocido is only really eaten in Madrid during the winter. It's even taken off the menu of many bars and restaurants during the summer because everybody wants lighter dishes for example cold soups like gazpacho, fried or grilled seafood dishes and salads. It can easily reach 40+ degrees celsius in the SHADE in Madrid, so imagine how hot it is in the sun. The nights are very warm too, and unbearable unless you have good air conditioning, which many people don't have because in the summer they go away to their second homes in the mountains or by the coast, or they simply use those weeks to travel abroad so avoid the worst of the Madrid summers..
ОтветитьMy family are from Madrid and I have to say I have never seen anyone ever have hot chocolate with porras. Most people there have porras with a milky hot coffee for breakfast only. And the hot chocolate is NOT a dunking sauce as so many foreigners seem to think, it's actually meant to be drank, not just dunked. When I'm in Madrid, I tend to order it once in a while in a café on it's own, especially in the winter.
As to the Cocido Madrileño, the last dish in the video, I have to say I have never seen anyone ever put tomato sauce on the cocido. What a bizarre thing to do. Also, many people prefer to have the soup and noodles and then not mix the other ingredients with the soup. Each to their own. In my family from Madrid, we never mixed it. Also, in Madrid people tend to only cook and eat Cocido during the cold winter, not in the summer as it get's far to hot in Madrid for that type of hearty meal and I'm talking about unbearably hot.

ОтветитьIn the last restaurant you can see that the kiwi guy isn't as trained as Mark. He is almost surrendering to the food. No problem for Americans though. They are human food shredders.
ОтветитьThat last restaurant is my kind! However you need to drink a fresh perhaps even a slightly sparkling red wine. A dry Lambrusco or a Beaujolais. A rosé Champagne would go well, too. Or a Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley.

ОтветитьI check Mark on every trip I take. I tracked down Casa Amadeo today & it was as good as I hoped. Amedeo was on vacation & part of the restaurant was closed. However, the bar area was open & Fernando took great care of me. I had a half order of the snails & calamari, & 2 glasses of vermouth…total price 18.60.
ОтветитьAs a Romanian, I just Love my Latin brothers in Spain. Warmest people I've ever met. They often corrected my Spanish accent and laughed with me. Italians would either glare at me or "correct" me rudely and walk away. We need more Spanish hospitality in this world and much LESS Italian "culture" of arrogance...

Been known Chocolat the french movie with Johnny Depp & Juliette Binoche as casts & now aware of Chocolat the famous spanish restaurant which got one thing in common..chocolatey cravings stories👍..Chef Amadeou been bubbly enuf & full of energy driven at 93😃..the way the spanish roasted the lamb & eat with hands shows how the intermixed of spanish cuisines & the mediterranean ones similarity with the exception of different kind of spices involved..
