This does right by the Native Dakota of Minnesota. What a fabulous documentary. This should be mandatory viewing in all schools. We NEED more of this kind of quality and holistic education about indigenous people & culture. Minnesota Ojibwe here, this video made me sob by how well it was done. Thank you for giving the Dakota this platform and voice. I would love to see more Minnesota tribal history!!!

Trauma is transmitted from generation to generation through our DNA. It doesn’t just go away. For the Flat Earthers who do not believe in science please walk to the edge and jump. For the rest of us the alterations in DNA ensure the body will “read” or express these changes in profoundly different ways vs. those who have not experienced trauma.
Because of these scientific realities, one can not simply “shake it off.” It is embedded not only in the body’s ability to adapt and express that history but also in the continuing Trauma of these indigenous people. Trauma is cumulative. We are not tabula rasa but the living embodiment of all who came before and all that happened before. In effect, it brings the “there and then” into the Here and Now.

Thank you for this presentation. If we truly want healing, we need IMO to look to South Africa for a template for how it’s done-not perfectly (because no human endeavor ever is) but as a vital step in the process of reconciliation. Without reconciliation, there is anomie. No one should float aimlessly, untethered from their history, customs and traditions. It severs one from their Identity, the deepest need and most profound expression of what it means to be human-and to be uniquely each one of us.

Allowing people to starve particularly in the reality food is available but being withheld is unconscionable. Period. In my mind there is no ambiguity regarding starvation. I well understand the process of starvation not for a day, a week, a month, a year. When there is no hope for relief one has nothing to loose. It’s horrible.
Shame on those who were so without conscience they could allow other human beings to experience such profound deprivation. Despicable.

Once again I'm thankful for TPT and another wonderful documentary that should be mandatory in our educational system. I've been shocked by the lack of real history I was taught growing up in Minnesota, but it's also opened my eyes to so many atrocities within our culture. It's so important we acknowledge our past and become stewards of peace and reconciliation for future generations.

This is a total whitewashing of the history of the huge atrocities committed by the Indians. They massacred whole families including small children. 800 people were killed by the Indians. Many woman and girls were kidnapped and raped and some were not returned to their families but were kept as “wives”.

Look what they did to Cherokee people you can have native blood and white people in government offices get to decide if you are native not the tribal people right to decide they did this to take their land and under represent their numbers
