How To Enable The Root User in Linux Mint

this is annoyting i use linux to clean up junk form my hardrive (like old windows) since linux just lets you edit and delete anything but not anymore now theres a lock on the files and cant edit or save anythign on the hardrive ugh and need root to fix that?

when I type in psswd root, it tells me I can't view or modify password information for root. I am the only user, why can't I be in control of my computer? XD
