From Mac To Windows - Are Windows Laptops Any Good?

I dont know you, it's the first time your video come across me, but to say and questioning "are windows laptops any good? - I know for sure to not wasting my time listen to you cause how come a person has that closed mentality.

So here goes my story. I’ve been using Macintosh as my primary desktop workstation since the days of OSX Mavericks, 2013. I had a windows laptop as my carryon machine that served my purposes as a business consultant. Just 3 months ago, I dumped my iMac Pro, went for a custom pc as my desktop workstation and got a new thinkpad x1, honestly, I don’t regret it for a second. I do not mean to say macOS is bad, it is definitely a great options for many who does not prefer customization ability and experience. But windows machines are just being a great fit for me. I really push them hard with my stuffs and they don’t bend.

Mac is just an over glorified and overpriced tech. Same shit every year not much difference than the last, except for some fanciful name like "pro max"or "max pro pro.." or some other shit like that, and they sell only Status instead of real tech and innovation.

Up until a month ago, it was hard to find a Windows laptop as good and well rounded as a MacBook Pro. Not anymore though with Intel Meteor Lake and new releases from manufacturers with improved hardware.

at the end of the day, we have our own preferences that suit our needs and workflows.

you’re ok with malwares and can afford reliable antivirus softwares and constantly update them + be vigilant of your security problems, windows.

you need almost-neat performance and sleek user experience, macos.

you need to tweak your system, sometimes to its core, linux.

nothing wrong with having preferred os; it’s only them who throw shades at those who’re not using os they use

Nice video, as a defender of Windows and Android, I really like the open talking here bcs many people who used Macs their entire life just keep complaining "oMg wIndOwS iS So tRaSh cAn'T u AfForD a mAc". Some tips where buying/building a PC is concerned:
- DO NOT BUY A PREBUILT. Many prebuilts are insanely overpriced and often are configured in a really stupid way.

- For most cases, you do not need an i9, a 12th/13th-gen i7 or a Ryzen 7800x3D is completely sufficient for video editing and you won't experience any issues or lags (trust me, I've edited 4k videos on an i5-12400f).
- DO NOT BUY AN INTEL ARC GRAPHICS CARD. Maybe they're good on portable devices, but the price/performance rate on those things is sooo bad. You'd probably be good with an RX7800XT or a 4070.
- Get a decent case with a good airflow so your GPU and your power supply won't go boom.
- Your power supply should have a 80+ gold certification and be able to supply >800w.
- Especially if you're gaming and/or do not have a lot of cloud storage that you can integrate into your File explorer, get an SSD with >1TB storage. Believe me, the struggle of expanding your storage, reforming your software partitions and such are a huge p.i.t.a.
- Use DDR5, and get at least 32GBs of DDR5-4600mhz RAM.
- Watch out that your motherboard supports TPM2.0, is fitting for your CPU and fits in your case, especially if you're getting a mini-itx case or sth like that. It's also always useful to have an RGB controller on it.
- Get a separate cooler for your CPU and do not use the boxed one, you could maybe even think of using a water cooler if you do decide to use a "better" CPU.
- Keep your fingers from any products that have weird names on it unless you know the brands or know that they are not bogus, bcs in most cases, they are bogus (especially the SSDs and power supplys).

Windows is more versatile just like Android is over iOS. I mean its so hard to drag and drop files from an Android phone to iOS or transfer files to the phone. You still need a separate program and its buggy at times. Unlike in Windows you just drag and drop everything. Windows laptops biggest con against Apple Silicon powered Macs (not the Intel ones) is a much poorer battery life in general. ARM is just so much better than X86 in terms of efficiency.

10 year mac user here. The best thing about mac is that it kinda works like linux. The best thing about windows laptop, on the other hand, is you can wipe the fucking drive and install linux.

I can't be the only person who alternates back and forth between these two operating systems. I like them both. My M2 is a portable delight and my 7840 with RTX has a crazy high performance ceiling. Together they were still half the price of a well equipped MacPro.

Yes I agree with you that Windows is kinda better than mac especially with app. I know we don't have final cut pro in Windows but I can use another editing app but I hope the will introduce it on windows.

I haven't switched over as such since I prefer some things on my 16" M1 Pro workflow-wise. Still, I love my XPS 15 9530. Even its FHD+ screen is impressive, which I noticed you have too. I was worried coming from a UHD+ 9500 and mini-LED on the Mac. I was pleasantly surprised, even if Dell really should throw in a UHD+ for the price I got this ($3200 CAD and some change).

It's funny how if I had money I would probably jump ship to macOS for everything but gaming. All because of Microsoft and how they deal with their OS and software. Funny.

Yes, I agree; Windows is much better than when I ditched it during the dark days of W8. I still prefer Macs by a comfortable margin due to many metrics, including the trackpad, speakers, noise, battery life, performance, ecosystem, etc.

I would not recommend Intel EVO anymore, as it is now being dumped for Intel ARC. It is best to wait for the new Intel ARC machines to arrive early in 2024 because their iGPU is 2X faster than Intel Iris, especially in the ultrabook sector.

I love MacBook for the speakers, display, keyboard, weight, design but system is not for me. AirDrop doesn't support more than 100 photos in one message.. no native Netflix app, Gmail etc. Everything I have to do via browser. Many games are not on MacBooks where iOS does have them. I knew it's not for gaming but last days I feel I have to play some. My combo in the future will be - windows laptop and iPhone.

I was a windows fan since 1994 till I switched to Mac in 2008. Mac took a while to adjust but I love it. For me windows is just to goofy not intuitive enough and I can never go back. The build quality is usually bad, even when buying premium windows machines v a Mac.

Someone said, "If I win the lottery, I won't tell anyone but there will be hints". My man looks like you've won the lottery haha. Apart from the amazing video quality(as always), the subtle flex is what I love in your videos. For example, the Omega watch, and the Ducati Panigale in the background, are just amazing! You should also do a little bit of lifestyle videos where you show around how you spend time on the bike, what watches you have/wear, etc. I know that's not your "style" of videos but if you need any help with the direction or ideas - lmk and we can talk :)
