She ultimately did watch it and she was brought to tears aand admitted that she was bawling while watching it and asked if she could perform with him one day. SO, he didn't win the competition, but got something much bigger out of it.

I mean, not to be the cynic here, but can we all come back down to Earth just a bit? He’s a young kid and he has young kid violin skills. In fact, with that very primitive vibrato, he’s distinctly “normal” when it comes to his skills for that age. However, if half a million dollars are at stake, I don’t want to see “normal”. You need to be a proper prodigy. I mean, don’t worry, I know Heifetz-level violinists don’t come around every day, and I wouldn’t expect that, but you guys get my point, yes? You should be able to play movements from major concertos, “Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento”, “Last Rose of Summer”, etc… It’s just when there are other amazing acts out there, you can’t just have an inspirational story and expect to win. Out of respect for the other talents, your skills need to be there as well, and his just weren’t.
