Slap’s “Eleven Rules For Storing Gold & Silver At Home”
1) A safe advertises hidden valuables, but if you must use a safe, bolt it down and load it with VERY heavy weights.
2) Store some decoy/sacrificial coins/cheap jewelry in an easy-to-find location. Then hide the good stuff well.
3) Unless you use a safe, NEVER hide your stash in a bedroom or bedroom closet.
4) Same as #3, but insert “study” and “pantry”.
5) Forget hollowed-out books, fake soup cans, etc… your stack will be stolen in less than 5 minutes.
6) If using a desk, bookcase or shelf, make sure your hiding spot won’t be revealed if these are tipped over. Because they WILL be tipped over.
7) You WILL want frequent access to your stash (to add to it, look at it, or (god forbid) take from it)… don’t make access difficult (behind drywall, buried in the yard, need a sledgehammer to get to it, etc.).
8) Unless using a safe, the best spots are in plain sight and LIKELY TO BE OVERLOOKED, or they’re multi-layered (meaning you have to move this, shift that, lift this and open that in order to access your stash).
9) Make sure someone you trust (spouse, financial planner, estate attorney, etc) has a sealed “open in the event of my death” letter describing where your stash is hidden.
10) With the exception of #9 above, NEVER EVER talk about your stash or that it’s in your home.
11) Never use a hiding spot that can be discovered by a contractor doing work in your house or yard.
KEEP IN MIND: The average home burglary in the US lasts just 11 minutes! Thieves want a quick hit-and-run.

I thought about using my gun safe and i have a smaller one that I'm using as dummie safes. I thought I was being pretty clever. I have some little 10 and
20 lb weights in them.
My couns are safe away from the house completely.
A friend of mine put hers in a small bucket along with other buckets with screws and nails. Just mark them as galvanized nails in the shed.
One other thing you can do to keep your couns from oxygen is using your food saver.

Your suppose to stack silver until you have enough to transfer to gold then stack that. The size difference alone means smaller hiding spot

The old adage says "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" I think I would do the tax event year by year and keep it at home or in reasonable proximity. Late in life, not much stacked, so I might like to have enough to pay taxes when dollars are unavailable.

I know of a man and his daughter who owned a hardware store for years. For some reason every time someone paid with a $ 20 bill, the $20 bill did not go in the cash register, but rather his pocket. The daughter did not know the ultimate destination of these bills, until years later, after the man died. She went to clean his house to settle the estate and opened a chest freezer. To her amazement, there were hundreds of $20 bills in the chest freezer.

My favorite secret safe is a long, sliding cabinet, tucked inside a door frame.
Latch hidden inside the bolt catch to unlock, then pull the whole side of the frame out revealing your secret shelves!

I'm in a rural area, I can keep as much as I want in a safe, I can see anyone coming from a 1/4 mile away, and if I don't, my driveway alarms will sound, or one of my 4 German Shepherds will alert me IF IM HOME. Great point about electricians and plumbers. Redundancies are a great point. Dummy safes are a great idea, out in the open to stall the bad guys if you're not home. They can be inexpensive, but bolted down, Keep quiet about what you have and vote TRUPM 2024!

I have a small fireproof safe with no valuables in it. It contains old books that any thief would just dump if they stole them. ...but the safe looks very tempting. I don't want to bolt it to my nice hardwood floor. So, I put as many lead diving belt weights in there as I could fit. Now it's so crazy heavy that any thief who breaks in and steals it will get a hernia. If they do manage to get it out of my house, they will be bummed beyond belief at the pitiful contents.

I have one designated Silver Britannia that I handle with bare hands. I have put a small dot of nail varnish on the capsule, so I don't mix it up. Any of the mass-produced coins are great for that. It feels great and reminds of how much more precious some of the other ones are 🙂

Simple security...

You have two or three safes, one safe is the sacrificial safe which has a small amount that you can afford to lose, something that is not easy to find but not too hard to find.

Another safe as your daily use safe thats well hidden.

The vault safe being placed somewhere that is not easy to access, is security hardened and well hidden.

I think the biggest concern is criminals brake in when your home and hold you at gunpoint. They in most cases don't care about time. They see a gun safe that huge and heavy a top end liberty safe. Out comes a 357 mag or a 9mm at your wifes head. They look at me and say open the safe or she dies. That is a bad scenario. A fentanyl addict would pull the trigger.

It's funny listening to where everyone suggests hiding their stash. I have a friend that was very fortunate and amassed 7 figure amounts of gold and silver, and he hid his stuff in every one of the places mentioned in this video (including honeypot methods). Funnies part is... he ended our 25 year friendship during Covid. Lucky for him I still honor my oaths and promises but I'm sure walking away has forced him to dig everything up anyway, just in case.

Ahhh, a discussion about first world dragon problems. Be super careful who even knows you are interested in hoard items, and don't even discuss shinies in public, because who knows who's listening or who they may inadvertently talk to and say something like "oh, did you know so-n-so was a collector?". Similar goes with guns; I've heard it said that ppl who have a lot of pro-gun/patriotic signage at their house sometimes get targeted, because it's assumed they likely have multiple guns.
Gardening, eh? Maybe if you bury some Maple Leafs out in the yard, you'll get a maple tree that gives Ag syrup. >>;=)
