The way that the Dead Sea Scrolls here are being regarded is a mildy deceptive. There is more than one Isaiah scroll and there are thousands of differences between them. There are also entire Psalms that simply do not exist in the Masoretic text, but i don't think that this is the biggest problem. The biggest problem is assuming that the Bible that came later is an accurate reflection of what books constitute sacred texts from the DSS collection. This is clearly not the case. The DSS community had other holy texts and would have looked askance at the Masoretic text for excluding some of their most sacred and significant manuscripts.

You can literally look at coins made with the face of Julius Caesar on them from the time that he lived. Writing in a manuscript is only one way of getting at whether a person is likely to have existed.

It puzzles me when you talk about the Bible you use CE and BCE instead of BC and AD.

Probably the coolest bit of evidence we have that these scriptures are accurate, is that the phenomenon of the born again Christian persists to this day! That's why we don't have "THE ORIGINAL" Bible (whatever that means). Words and sentences were changed many times, censored and books added and deleted. There was also a gender swap and unused and lost books.

Whose to say which exact words Jesus used depending on the day he repeated the same message in a different synagogue in some other place in Judah? I seriously doubt all the red letter parts were a one off sermon from a teleprompter. Some of those stories were told more than just once.

Calligraphic dating methods are questionable, and, provably wrong in about 20% of cases. P-52 is slipping to 180 and 200 C.E. or later, respectively, in two recent scholars' work. Sorry, I can't name them. But, 125 C.E. for p-52 is stretching the current consensus to an early limit. Post 150 C.E. is more likely.

You’ve actually missed the point in your discussion of the timeframe between documents and have overlooked the nature of critical and textual scholarship going back to the enlightenment when scholars began to say that there was no historicity to the Bible, that Jesus didn’t exist, and there was little accuracy in the words of the Bible. The point is that sooner than any other text or sources we have from the ancient world, the books of the NT WERE NOT FAR REMOVED FROM THE ACTUAL EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE. the point is that we consider Suetonius and other writers to be historically reliable for works that were written hundreds of years after their death, but the NT had been unduly marginalized and held to a different standard for many years. Moreover, there are creeds within the Bible (1Corinthians 15) that scholars agree was early christology and often date it to as early as a few years after Jesus’ death. The Gospels are given as eye-witness accounts. It is important to mention that they rely on abductive reasoning to convince their readers. "Abductive reasoning, or abduction, is making a probable conclusion from what you know." Their honesty, character , and motives for their writings are a matter for honest reflection.

I am an old man, I am educated, and I sometimes choose to use words from the English language that are becoming archaic, because more contemporary terms lack power or specificity. Were the Eggheads to consider my writings or speech, they would say I belong to another age... pah!

You haven't done a lot of research on this subject when it comes to the dead sea scrolls. More often than naught they disagree with the Hebrew Masorectic Text and confirm that the LXX is closer to the original Hebrew. If you don't believe me get a copy of the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible where they translated the fragments into English.

There is also a good chunk of secondary references to the Gospels from The Letter to Diognetus, for example. Don't forget graffiti from Pompeii regarding Christians, which date the presence of Christians in Pompeii before the volcanic eruption! Add to this the intriguing presence of type AB+ blood on the Shroud of Turin, the Suderion of Oviedo and the Holy Tunic of Argenteuil, which also shares identical pollen with the Shroud of Turin. These are all fascinating rabbit holes grad students can lose themselves in and, well, nothing like this exists for any ancient figure, Caesar, author, philosopher or other. There is a signiture of Cleopatra, but she was not on the list.

Do we have an idea of when the books of the New Testament were canonized? I know in the video it says 301-500ce we had complete NT copies. So it's safe to assume the NT was canonized much earlier, right? When?

In stead of creating questions on the accuracy of the Bible, it would be more genuine if there were abundant examples of the writings errancies presented. There was mention of “minor” grammatical, punctuation differences. That is well known, but it does not change the information from the original content. The overall evidence is the message and historical documentation remains intact and highly reliable. Archeologists use the Bible to find things and authenticate people places events and things. The contents of the Bible keep getting confirmed year over year.

Since the Church Fathers quoted books in the NT, it would be nice to have a chart of their manuscripts.
