Ryzen 7 6800U is SO GOOD - Zenbook S 13 OLED Review

That's a hella nice machine. I don't like that stupid trackpad num pad thing though. If I could find this new for like $500.. I'd do it probably.

Managed to buy this for £799

I just bought a Zenbook 14 Oled, I love it, but holy cow are finding reviews on Asus ultrabooks confusing. even after i purchased it I had no idea which one would come to the door. was it the Asus 14, 14x ,14 pro ,14 x pro, did it have the oxide finish onthe back or what.

Will there be review on 2023 version of this laptop with 7840U? I already bought one, but still want review)

Everything is great except awful after sales service of Asus.

You guys who do these reviews do you take the time to put these machines through their paces or just based on specs spew out nonesense to buy into it.
I can tell every reader or listener stay away from this laptop. It absolutely useless. It crashes with just basic things like browsing the web. I had mine sent to Asus after 3 months, it came back with the same issues. I went in store and had it replaced and guess what the same old crashing and restarting. It is now boxed up waiting for collection and refund tomorrow. It looks pretty but my advise stay well clear of it.

The gloss display is crucial for display clarity. Any anti glare coating will just make everything look grainy / fuzzy.

Why isn’t the Lenovo thinkpad z13 included in you testing.

Fast forward to 2023 it's still unbeatable by their own zenbook s14 oled which launch with 7730U(5800U basically) the cheap tricks with same price😂

Not being able to upgrade ram is such a skummy practice. 8gb of ram is basically planned obsolescence. It’s criminal to keep the otherwise great hardware held back by them going out of their way to create this limitation.

I've had this laptop for about a week and haven't experienced any trackpad issues you've mentioned. I've disabled cursor acceleration in mouse settings and it's been just fine for me.

I don't understand why they didn't use these in the 14" version.. so annoying..

Well that was disappointing. You managed to get through the whole presentation without actually mentioning the Asus model name - which are incredibly complex to follow at the best of times. At a guess it is the UM5302, care to confirm?

wow the prices dont justify it now. you can get cheaper 6800u with the handhelds like gpd and aya neo and you can dock it if you want bigger screen

Are the reflections of the screen only a problem when you are taking this thing outside? Or is it also very annoying with the reflections when you are indoors?

Asus trackpads seem to be bad to below average even on the fancy laptops.

Usb4 doesn't work and Asus reverted this capability.

I'm always amused when influencers / people complain about glossy screens on Windows laptops but never on MacBooks. I'm not a fan of glossy screens myself, but it's just interesting that it's rarely a talking point when discussing MacBooks. Perhaps Apple doesn't allow it in the review kit lol.

Good review otherwise, though the consensus across user reviews is that the trackpad is quite good. I wonder if you got sent a bad unit or there was a driver update that fixed it. Cheers and happy holidays up north!

Has anyone docked this to a large monitor? If so, how did that work out?

How does this compare to the thinkpad nano X1 Gen 2? I'm looking at a config with a i7 1260(i think) same amount of Ram. I don't game but do occasionally edit video. I just want the lightest laptop and I will use it for some music production. I'm nervous about the ThinkPad because it's Intel and I'd be moving from a Zephyrus G14 that has a 4900HS which hasn't failed me one bit so I'm inclined to stick with an AMD based machine but the lighter the better at this point!

Would have been perfect with more than 60Hz... :(

Does this laptop have visible grid mesh on display? Screen door effect? It seems to affect all the new asus oleds.

Too bad the keyboard is so much worse then the older um325 models.

Anyone buying these Zenbooks should Google the dreaded laptop not turning on (with lights and without lights on). There are too many failures and does not appear to be any support. If your machine is out of warranty, of course it is time for another, and definitely not Asus. I am one disgruntled Asus customer who used their motherboards back in the day and really took the challenge of this Zenbook but is now deluded.

Glad to hear you criticizing the glossy display: to me it's almost a no-no. What makes me infuriating is that I own a 48" OLED TV by LG, it's matte finished and it's so beautiful to look at; on a laptop it'd be ever more obvious to go this way.

In addition, it's now available the flip version, which I'd choose because of the 1in2 form factor and the stylus ready display; sadly, besides the glossy display, they put the Intel 1260p cpu instead of the 6800u inside. Don't know why...

I’ve just got my S13 oled and for some reason its impossible to measure the CPU temperature and I have updadated everything there is to update. I can’t see the temp when using apps like CPUID HWMonitor.

I installed the Radeon software, it also doesn’t show the CPU temp in the metrics overlay, it only shows the integrated GPU temp with no measurments available for the CPU. What is wrong with my model???

Damn was browsing Microcenter and saw this was popular - after seeing this review this might be the move for me to get... and review a bit . Super capable!

It does not have Ir camera for face login sad, It affects my buying decision. Means if we are paying this much a windows hello Ir camera is a must have. That's an exotic and useful feature.
