Daily Dose of Internet definitely smashed this in both his intros and outros. Intros are short and iconic. Outros add extra content and makes you wait for the little "later"

PBS Spacetime and The Science Asylum do something good, they do comment response during the credits so you stay engaged while continuing to watch

I personally love outros for 2 reasons: 1. They help prevent the annoying instances when autoplay takes me to the next vid before I can pause to read comments for a minute and then I have to go back to video. 2. They also prevent the instances where the end cards cover up content that I want to see

Huge missed opportunity to end the video with xenogenesis

Not sure whether you would classify these as the same thing as outros, but end screens seem to be a good comprise. They serve the functional purpose of having a place to put end cards and scroll patrons while also not being excessive. They can also be really recognisable! I know a lot of vtuber clipping channels whose end screens are highly effective for identification when the content of these channels is all so similar.

Danny Gonzalez used to have a proper outro with a song and everything but it got copyrighted, and he then started using his own song for the outro which was fun enough that I always stuck to the end of the video to listen to it. But recently, he has gotten rid of his outro and all his videos just end because he noticed that there's a drop off of viewership and most people don't like or subscribe at that point anyway. Though I understand his reasons, I still do miss his outro song.

Tbh I feel like the intros are more important to your Channel than outros

I have actually been persuaded to subscribe to channels because they have an outro that's catchy and/or entertaining.

Rare earth has one of the best otros, he changes slightly the text every time to add a joke related to the video, so you always have to pause it to read it all, and after it he adds a blooper or a final though.

I love ppl put super loud music in the intro. Because that will be the last time their channel will show up in front of me.
I even wrote a script just for this. It will automatically make "Don't recommend channel" happen.

The idea of an outro is pointless. You already saw the content, what’s the point of concluding it?
That said, it is jarring to end a conversation without saying bye or anything along those lines to signal the end. It just makes sense to make that slight connection with the viewer, just don’t over do it. That extra 20 seconds of retention isn’t life or death, but it is nice to conclude or atleast let the viewer know the video is ending. News stuff, kind of makes sense just to end after the topic. But a review, or discussion, or podcast, all should have a conclusion. You don’t need to wrap up, but just make sure there’s an ending that satisfies those that need it. Or else it just

I had the longest time thinking it's my problem that videos suddenly ends. Then I realise it's a "trick" for them to boost watch time ratio. That's so stupid

Actually I missed Mrwhosetheboss' last outro with the song Rebellious Way, it's the best outro I've ever seen.

To be fair, I have 3 intros/outros for my 3 types of videos I post (not on this channel, on my main) which are: regular, gaming, coding.

And out of them, only one uses the Xenogenesis song.

This is why my channel doesn't have a traditional outro. It's five seconds (the minimum allowed for an end screen) where I tell the viewer what video they may want to watch next because it's either related to the current video or something introducing new viewers to my wider channel content and end it with an ask to like and subscribe. And I only use one end card.

Some videos of mine just end abruptly though with nothing. Outros aren't necessary beyond just saying "don't forget to like and subscribe to see more" easy simple and short. Helps with retention for the algorithm too.

Speaking of film credits: when rolling Marvel films, my cinema still keeps the animated credits before the first post-redit scene (I mean, these are somewhat enjoyable), but skips the BW ones and just rolls the second post-credit scene
