ОтветитьHello mam
As we know gerund phrase working as noun .
So
can we use gerund phrase or gerund with Dummy subject "THERE" as noun.
As)--
1) -- THERE was [fighting in the class] .
2)-- THERE was [starting a new business] in town.
Is "THERE" word still "DUMMY subject" in those sentences ?
And what is the real subject in these sentence ?
I hope you help us .
I think that love and like are Stative Verbs and they dont take to, am i right? Could you pl explain that

ОтветитьThank you so much Mino I often tell my students from Intermediate upwards that you are their 2nd teacher for grammar and usage. Your videos and presentations are so clear and accessible.
ОтветитьThanks Minoo. I fancy trying this out on my students!! I tell my students to watch your channel. I like following your dissections of English grammar.
ОтветитьMy ear is trained but I couldn't have explained it like that. Hopefully I can now try with my students. Bravo Minoo!!
ОтветитьHi there Mino, I've got a question on "used to do" and "was used to doing". Is "to" a preposition in both cases? I've read that we use -ing after prepositions. Thank you :)
ОтветитьDear prof,
I would greatly appreciate it if you would be so kind as to let me know if I get the point of gerund and present participle.
Please let me say an example:
🔹Smoking cigarettes IS dangerous
🔸Smoking cigarettes ARE dangerous
🔹The first sentence is gerund because smoking is a subject of the sentence. Hence, smoking is dangerous, the topic is smoking.
🔸The second smoking is an adjective because modify the number of cigarettes so the point is the number of the cigarettes. Hence, the number of cigarettes are dangerous.
Is that right? or Am I stupid ?
Tara, dearest prof. A
they are entitled to receive some compensation - seems right to me, why is receiving correct here
ОтветитьDear Prof,
Might I trouble you for a question ?
When does one has to use an infinitive or a gerund as a subject of a sentence? and when one can use both interchangeably?
Any tricks ? Any rules? Any lesson about that topic ?
Thank you kindly. A
Hello Prof. I beseech your pardon, but I'm going to get crazy. In this Sentence : Wow! Dinner was great! I can help you with the washing up. That The washing up, is gerund acting as a name? Am I wrong? Thank you. A

ОтветитьHi, could you to explain the 8 and 10 exercises? I really appreaciated that. Thanks.
Ответитьlet me put it into practice.
It's impossible for me to write an essay without using infinitive/gerund.
in the sentence above, the word "using" is the gerund.
Btw, can I put an adverb in front of it?
for example: It's impossible for me to write an essay without 'instinctively using' infinitive/gerund.
can I express it that way?
Thanks teacher👥
