Joe Rogan & Jonathan Haidt - Social Media is Giving Kids Anxiety

Parenting is so god awful that it should damn near be outlawed. And it’s not just the kids, it’s the parents, the generation before them which are the current group of parents now, I’m 34 so it’s that generation of people my age. We have to seriously look ourselves in the mirrors because we are the parents of this current generation so what happened to us for the generation after to be the worst. It’s not all their faults and social media definitely plays it’s huge part as well.

The parents are terrible for giving their kids so much stress and putting that on them by buying them the devices.😊

Kids up until the 90’s roamed free for the most part. Parents now days are terrified at the idea of their kids being on their own. I think a major reason is because with the increase in tech and ability to get instant news, when there is an abduction or missing child, everyone knows about it. I doubt addictions are any more prevalent than they used to be, but because everyone knows about them now when they do happen, it makes it seem like a greater risk than it actually is.

Well teens have drama and issues as is with peer pressure and bullies and many are not emotionally mature enough or socialized to cope well. If you are not popular maybe you have bad self esteem if you are smart and attractive likely narcissist will target you with smear campaigns or you will stalked and given unwanted sexual attention you may have your privacy invaded too hackers exist and some kids are addicted to it so not doing their homework assignments just obsessing over if their crush commented on their pics etc. or someone could intentionally take bad pictures of them like the tabloids do. You would need a thick skin or be willing to block people or tell them to f*ck off some teens don't have the nerve to manoeuvre virtual reality. If it's not an enjoyable experience though don't bother with it just to conform either you hate baseball all the other kids play you don't need to though if you hate it imo.

I see a lot of females on Instagram who seek that attention hell half of them hide their face but definitely show their body and quickly get upset when a man will go in their comments and say inappropriate things .

It's kind of funny how early in this clip Joe Rogan was saying he didn't even like his kids sleeping over at their friends houses sometimes because the parents didn't watch them enough, and at the end Jonathan Hadit was talking about letting his 9yo daughter walk their New York neighborhood by herself. Joe would not let his kids sleep over at Jon's house lol

Just like Jordan Peterson has said. Females use reputation destruction. This is why social media is their domain. Not to mention the unlimited amount of attention and validation they get.

My 12 year old daughter got really suicidal so I took the decision to make her delete her fb whats app Instagram accounts 4 months later shes a totally different girl. I took loads of shit for it but my kids life and mental health is way more important then peoples opinions who these people mostly don't have kids. Now my daughter meets up with her mates to go football hair dressers bowling ect young kids especially girls dont need to be worrying about how they look or whether or not she has a certain amount of likes etc. My son hes more interested in watching football getting chased by police and going fishing. So apart from the police chases which I used to do im finding my kids are more social with me and their mum where as before mouthy tantrums smashing things etc are a thing of the past. Were parents not others who give opinions so parent is what I say

Im born in 1993 and i remember i experienced anxiety when i was 6 on a saturday morning and since then ive been daily living with strong anxiety
We didnt have social media at that time

Fick when I was 8yrs old I came home whenever! I was always home by 5 because I was 8 but my point is that,that's when I started to learn independence. I broke my arm aged 10 and in exchange for my freedom I had to cycle kms home to tell mum. No need for ambulance etc and my arm got fixed. I wasn't the center of my parents universe and life was happier because myself my siblings and my parents were equals according to age.
My brother aged 5 and myself 7 rode a bicycles on an open road in 100kmh traffic every day to school and back ffs, no helmets. I'm 51 and he's 49 nothing happened! The worst was that they're would always be that one kid that had a facial scold from pulling on the kettle cord. No one was on meds and we all played until the street lights came on. It was that simple. Nothing but the media and parent reaction changed.

Keep kids tired from sports and hobbies to the point where they don't have time for devices. We used to sleep 8 hrs solid from exhaustion.
Social media is here for good and guidance is the key.

Letting a kid walk around the corner of his house out of a parents site CAN cause the child to be abducted... You can NEVER be too careful when it comes to your children and you'll never regret being overly protective. This guy's a moron.
