I was going to write down a poem by Stephen Crane, but I don't think that would help. I was talking to this other young Asian woman on the internet, and I was amazed at the workload she handled for school. She said her earliest memory was of shouting the multiplication tables when she was four to her mother while she took a shower. Her scores on the standardized tests were astronomical, but that was because she had done a carefully crafted program of study for the tests. There are a lot of other Asians with a similar background. She had been rejected by a lot of top of the line school because of her demographic. I can see how all that pressure could set someone up for a massive guilt trip. ... I too play a lot of self destructive games with myself, but I always thought there was something in me worthwhile, no matter how bad I was doing. That is something everyone needs to work on, feeling that they're worthwhile. To me, a young woman who looks like you doesn't need to tell herself she looks good. She should know that by looking in the mirror. ..... A lot of the guys where I live feel very deprived. They see other people driving SUV's and they pine with envy. I never was that taken by cars, but I have met a lot of guys who are. They would be a lot happier if they learned not to worry about what other people have.

You're dancing around the concept of self and the aspects that form our complete self and a "guide". The modern dependency on external validation is the cornerstone of social media, especially seems more so for women. As for being ready to cry after a short unsuccessful date, this is a moment to reflect on the source of that reaction and if it is appropriate to the cause or if there is a deeper reason that has been brought up. Eventually you should be able to process reactions in real time while on the date, instant awareness of the bad behavior of a date being the end state. Of course due diligence to pick better prospects from the start should also be a goal (listen to those whispers).

The only thing about "external validation" with me is, I just want to know that I will leave a good legacy. Or, at least, leave a legacy, at all. Even if that legacy is, "He tried," which is my one big piece of life advice. "Try." ... Because, "meaning" and "purpose" is in the inner being of my heart, and that's what fuels me. If there's no reason or purpose for something, I'm like, "Well then, why bother?" And that, coming from the person who says "Try." That's the only thing about "external validation," if you were asking from my perspective.

Otherwise, it's just that I want to be left alone.
