I7 8700k is my new cpu my brother gave it to me and he bought a new one I've noticed that in vrchat the i7 still really struggles maybe because it's a very heavy cpu game

I still have the i7 8700 in my main rig and it runs great IMO.

That's the RIG I actually own:

i7 8700 (non K model)
ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1080 ti OC (Stock clock)
Corsair 32 GB DDR4 @3600
Samsung EVO MVNe 1 Tb drive
Samsung EVO SSD 2 Tb drive
Samsung 49 inch curved monitor @ 5120 X 1440

Also, I,m using the maximum internet speed available on the market in my Canadian province so it also helps a lot I guess on the performances, plus that I live next to an internet major relay system for AWS.

I compared my performances with my friend's newer PC and I'm having better performances, I don't know how that's possible tho. Maybe due to maintenance as well where I disaemble everything twice per year and repaste everything with high performance paste and I just deep clean my PC all the time while my friends don't... ever.

Cheers

I have a 3700x with an RTX-3060-12 and 3200 64GB ram and Version 3.18.2 runs at 80-85% on about half the cores and 45-50% on the rest of the cores.. And a 1080 @ 60 monitor runs at 6+GB video memory.. I would place my CPU and GPU at the bottom requirement for SC. And I have the system over clocked a little.. There is no way you could run SC on a laptop... ! Way to much heat...the GPU is going into power limit all the time in SC on my card. And this is better than it was. You really need a RTX-4070TI for SC. With SC running I use 29GB of ram most of the time. I have windows compression turned off. Makes a big difference.

I know you moved away from the GTX1060 from your min spec system, but I have one in my secondary PC with a Ryzen 2600 and was surprised that it runs decently with the latest SC update, am getting around 30fps walking around NB.

I am running SC on a i5 6600k, 2070 super with 48 ddr4 @2166. Trying to anyway. This is struggling. I am looking at new setup with 7800x3d. But will keep my 2070 super for now

I run the first gen threadripper 1920x, 12c 24t, 3 somehting ghz boost and i have tried many configs with HT on and off and with 4 cores disabled and the entire thing runs SC like trash. full cores and HT on gives the best proformance. but even with all those cores the game runs 40% useage on cpu and gpu and only getting 20-35 fps.....

interesting test, with HT , hope they fix e-cores in future too. But what i found the fight 1 vs 1 on yela have drops frames to 70-90+- its a lot for 7800x3d bc of his 4.8-5ghz and mb some thing other staff, he have close to 13900ks with avg fps but drops in dogfight for me more importent then just avg beter frames.

Please stop making people think they need NASA Hardware to run SC

for these machines, use throttlestop to undervolt the CPU and you will get a lot more performance

What should I focus on upgrading first? & to what? Minimal price point.

Its not strictly the hyper-threading doing it

The game will benefit from 8 threads be its threads and cores or straight threads and past that you will see a usage but no improvement in performance

Take an 8 core 16 thread CPU and compare threading on vs off

For example you could take your 7800X3D and test it with threading on and off which should make it the most obvious if its still the case or not

I have a 9600K and noticed that there is a 9600K refresh which is the same chip but with HT. I have wondered if that would be a useful upgrade because it is circa 100 quid. Maybe a used 9900K from eBay might make a significant difference.
