Love this ship I've seen her often in Venice where I live. May I respectfully suggest a revision of the ship's beautiful motto. It is better translated as "Not who begins, but who perseveres" (persevera means persevere). Thanks for a lovely visit aboard!

It was given with other 31 vessels to Russia as a debt of war...
They used it too as a school ship for a decade then it desappearing his hidden behind the mist of history. Several versions...

Era il 12 luglio del 1962 quando la portaerei USS Independence incontrava nel mediterraneo centrale il veliero Amerigo Vespucci, la più antica nave in servizio nel mondo. Un incontro straordinario, che si è ripetuto nel settembre di quest’anno, ben sessant’anni dopo; questa volta nelle acque dell’Adriatico.
“Questa è la nave della marina militare italiana Amerigo Vespucci – cambio”. Dichiara nave Vespucci alla radio. “Siete voi ad aver navigato accanto alla USS Independence nel 1962?”, chiedono dalla portaerei statunitense H. W. Bush. “Amerigo Vespucci – continua la portaerei statunitense – dopo sessanta’anni siete ancora la nave più bella del mondo”.
