I'm shocked every time you guys release a new video that I'm actually getting this for free?? Such great information that's being delivered in an easy to understand way
ОтветитьThe sound of your drums is an individual preference and 1 has to deal with the acoustics of the place you are playing so I tend to take tutorials on drum sound with a grain of salt and a scotch.
ОтветитьFunny how things change, When I started playing yrs ago, a general tuning was 1 full turn on reso and 1 & 1/2 on the top batter was the go too tuning.
ОтветитьSnare sounds like Deftones - My Own Summer!
ОтветитьDiese Besserwisservideos sind unerträglich!
ОтветитьSuch a clean pure sound. Thank you. Still working on getting that tone...
ОтветитьThanks man!!... I needed this
ОтветитьGreat video and explanation. That snare sounds very nice too? ( is that a Ludwig Black Magic/universal?
ОтветитьThe “too wide” could definitely have some pros
ОтветитьWhat a great video well done
ОтветитьQuestion: Did you ever try to make a porthole in the resonant head of a snare? What would happen with the sound? 😂
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьExcellent video, thank you very much for making this topic understandable.
ОтветитьGreat stuff. I had lots of problems back in the day with engineers wanting default muffling but I think the tech & attitudes have changed. Still on house kit , we will almost have to retune . Thanks again- love the “ heads talking to each other “ approach.
ОтветитьNice What Color Are Does Beautiful Drums Sounds Good TO Also Nice Drum 🥁🛢️ Playing
ОтветитьGot a pearl forum set free, any ideas how to tune cheap shells like this? Put new g2's on, except clear on floor tom, couldn't get floor to not sound like xray paper with coated batter. Maybe just reached limit of cheap shells, was contemplating hydraulics
ОтветитьHave you ever used a Controlled Sound or Power Center type head as a resonant? I find myself using a moongel directly in the center of my resonant heads a lot lately, and I'm wondering if I can get away with not doing that by simply using a CS-type head instead.
ОтветитьSo important for some people to hear this, even myself🔥
ОтветитьGreat great video!.. Thanks
ОтветитьHow manytime I've seen drum kits with tape or paper towels gaffed to the heads. I've tried explaining it to them. I've even tuned their drums for them, only to have them go back to gaffed up heads. I've given up, and I let them live in the 70s-80s with all that Muffeling. I run all my kits wide open.
ОтветитьSweet! Thanks.
ОтветитьGreat tips, thanks.
ОтветитьMy drums are 1961 Oaklawn Camco Ambassadors in the rare Burgundy sparkle colour, I’ve owned them since 1990. 12”, 14”, 20”. My method is simple: coated Remo Emperors on top and bottom, tuned to the natural note of the shell. Done. I’ve had countless drummers say to me “if you ever want to sell these, call me first!” They just sound that good. I attribute the sound to the old school 30 degree bearing edges, and the fact that the wood is 60 years old. I love my old kit.
Ответитьi love the info and this will really help my tuning, awesome sound a nd beautiful drum set.
ОтветитьJust my personal taste ...I like the "reso" side a bit higher than the the batter side. Bonham style. Just me.
ОтветитьBest reso intro video ever
ОтветитьThis is interesting. We take very different approaches to head tension. I don't tune my toms; I tension them. I learned how to do this from Rob "Beatdown" Brown's videos - basically press on the center of the head and turn each tension lug until the wrinkles in the head just disappear. My toms sound great doing this. Having said that, your toms also sound great. Different approaches but both seem to work. The "tensioning" approach is the reason why I would never spend money on something like a Tune Bot. For me it's not about pitch, but rather about optimal tension for the specific head and shell. (My snare is the only drum for which I consider pitch "a thing" - Reso head as close as possible to a perfect 4th higher than batter head. This is a trick Joe Morello taught me)
ОтветитьGreat content wow I learned a lot and I’ve been drumming for 20 years. Earned a sub.
ОтветитьThis just blew my mind, I’m an audio engineer and by far drums have been the hardest thing for me to learn, not just recording but TUNING.
Your video here comes down to a crystal clear wire as to why we need the drum to work in conjunction, what I mean is that we need the toms heads to work together and thinking in that way makes you more apt to touch the reso head.
Thanks for this awesome piece of information.
Always have good/simple vids. Easy to understand. Maybe you can make a video about evans g1 vs genera reso? Not many videos on this. evans also claims g2 top works well with genera bottom if you look at their website under genera reso. thanks man.
ОтветитьThe biggest difference between my second and third kit was the tom sound. Went from a Prestige Session Select kit to a maple Gretsch kit. The tom sounds were SO different. I was blown away at the tones the Gretsch toms could provide.
ОтветитьYou should have seen my face when you really cranked the reso heads on the toms.. it was like someone just farted..
Ответить44 years of drumming and I've never heard such an awesome explanation of reso head science. Just re- tuned my micro kit and I can't believe the depth I got out of them. Thank you !!
ОтветитьWhy not try a batter head on the reso side! It'll give you more of a punch with a lot of tone/note. Thank me later!
ОтветитьYou also did some fine drum groves while explaining. 👌🏻
ОтветитьWhy do I like the lower tuned reso sound better? 😅
ОтветитьThese videos are so to the point and detailed at the same time. No fluff or nonsense. Love it
ОтветитьI need to try this out, I use a drum dial and I usually set the reso and the batter to the same tension but I need a tighten up the Reso just a bit to see if I can get more projection, I like the sound that I get but if I can get a better sound I'm all for it 👍
ОтветитьOne of the most useful videos on YT.
ОтветитьNo problem with reso heads if you don´t have any
ОтветитьI learned this stuff that hard way. You guys are doing great work giving it to people for free
ОтветитьI have recently experimented with putting Hydraulic Evans as the reso and the Evans onyx black heads for the batter, the hydraulics provided a great reso sound and muffle rings on the top added some more control but they do not sound flat or dead they are monstrously loud and deep, I found tuning almost identical in tone with the onyx works well. I would however recommend experimenting with different batters if you were to try this idea. I use a vintage Remo acoustic on bravo 2 set
ОтветитьGreat video. I have a Sonor SQ2 Maple Medium kit, 8x8, 10x10, 12x12, 14x14, and 16x16 stock Clear Sonor reso heads ( ambassador weighted ) and Remo Clear Emperor on batter side. Definitely struggling to get a good sound out of the toms. The bass drum 22x18 and snares 14x5, and 10x5 sound great.
Ответить1st time here from random search just got some g2 evans coated heads coming this week for a thrift store kit I found.
Liked and subscribed.
Needed this video
What if the batter and reso are tuned to the exact same pitch
Ответитьi just took it off, problem solved
ОтветитьI finally know how clean toms sound
ОтветитьI don't like the sound of Pearl drums. Not enough sustain.
ОтветитьI don't like that high ringing snare sound.
ОтветитьHere’s an interesting one: the edges of the new batter heads on my toms are squeaking/creaking! Sucks! High tuning, low tuning, can’t make it go away.
Anyone have any thoughts? I can’t track with these :/
