The temple is a Karst topography; this type of structure is produced by the erosional work of ground water in the lime stone regions. These caves enlarge over period of time forming various structures like stalactites, stalagmites, cave pillars etc. It is formed due to the deposition of calcarea solutions which are carried by the dripping water through the ceiling of the cave.
Chemical equation: Carbonic acid+ lime stone= calcium bicarbonate (soluble)
