Mid Side Demystified

It is funny how people who sell us instruments for mixing can't mix a simple speaking voice and background music properly for their own promotional videos......

whoever it was in fabfilter that decided to make Dan Worrall do all of their plugin videos deserves to be CEO of the world

I can't wrap my mind around why the Mid/Side matrix works how it does. One of the many places I get stuck on is how combining the Mid and phase-inverted Side means, literally, "Mid minus Side." By comparison, phase-flipping any regular track to fix phase cancellations with another regular track, I've never heard that described as "one minus the other." Is the implication here that the Mid mic has an inherently positive polarity? I've never heard of a cardioid mic having a "positive" or "negative" polarity either.

I watched and realised that Dan and demystified go together like milk and lemon.

On my mate 10 sound is mono if the phone is held vertically, it's stereo when's hold horizontally

as much as I like and know the huge knowledge of Worrall, I am prety sure this videos contains a few errors. the side information wont fully cancel if you downmix to mono for example.
also I don't think that by highpassing the side channel the filtered information is passed to de mid channel

Love that your primary DAW in all these videos is Reaper. It's the shit. Most people are still sleeping on it's power.

This is an AWESOME video. I've been watching a bunch of videos over the last few days about how to do mid/side EQ, but none of them explained why or what is making it work.
This went into a perfect level of technical details and added a lot of information to my understanding of how to use mid/side processing.
