Hi Fran! I'm new to your channel. I am quite impressed with your passion for the subjects of your videos. However, since A) I am a big music historian, and B) also a big PITA (LOL) I have to be that guy... You mentioned the Shirelles, and Ronettes... they were produced by Phil Spector, who along with engineer Larry Levine recorded a great deal of music at Gold Star Studios, who were renowned for their completely ANALOG echo chamber... David Gold designed it himself, it allegedly was complementary trapezoids, the walls of which were covered in plaster and mounted on heavy isolation forms. When the studio closed, legend has it that he destroyed the echo chamber so no one else could copy it and replicate the sound... I look forward to more of your content...
ОтветитьThey can be made cheaply too, but expensive ones apparently sounded better
ОтветитьI've heard that the "Schaller KV-40 / KV-50 Amp (the german answer to the fender twin reverb) has an rare built in echo plate inside
ОтветитьOne thing I can't understand, why are you making these suitcases? Purely for fun?
ОтветитьI’m here via learning that Dan Lanois was always telling Eno and U2 to use plate echo sparingly or cut back to mono when they were after engaging Bono’s Joe Cocker mode —thus saving his lovely strain on tracks like Red Hill Mining Town.
ОтветитьRob scallon video about reverb. What you have is reverb. Rob scallon talks all about reverb, and he sees the recording studio reverb you have. Thank you for sharing and showing reverb equipment.
Ответитьso cool , try finding one, there is 1 for sale in America
ОтветитьIts plate reverb not an echo. I sounds great though
ОтветитьYeah, but where’s the Frantone “Plecho” (plate echo) pedal? You’re welcome and 3% branding rights in perpetuity. The pedal art should feature turnbuckles in the corners.
ОтветитьI think I heard that Ace would use this during his solos
ОтветитьWow that was Riders on the storm on STEROIDS, Yikes. Yeah the actual song does have quite the ambiance, Robbies guitar too, Kinda the bummer is Ray's keyboard kinda drowns out Robbies parts. I always wondered what PLATE reverb was, Thanks FRAN!!!! You Rock.
ОтветитьIt's amazing how far effects have come. That thing is a "Boat Anchor!"
ОтветитьThat song at the end is wonderful! Dig it!
ОтветитьCool Bees! Great video! That reverb sounds frantastic!
ОтветитьDamn!! I was raised believing Art dangled Paul Simon by his ankles into a lift shaft to get that reverb..oh well
Ответитьabsolutely love your speaking voice
ОтветитьCool thingy! But the manual states that the in and outs are unbalanced?!?! That's kind of weird because this design will pick up noise and interferences if used with long unbalanced cables. Also these plates are often installed in more remote places (ergo: long cable runs). I mean It's a quick and easy fix, even cheap.. Why haqben's they done it in the first place? The german electronics guy in me is disappointed...
But I love your passion and the plate is awesome! No question about it!
You forgot to scream into it...
ОтветитьOkay, I'm sold. Subscribing to this interesting channel now.
ОтветитьSome of those reverbs that you mentioned are room reverts.
ОтветитьI'd love to visit Capitol Records' echo chambers. They're world famous, and there are tours available. What a sound on those old records! The plate you have sounds fantastic, too!
ОтветитьMine has a hum that’s being amplified obviously … any idea what u think the hum could be / how to fix it??
ОтветитьYou have a very beautiful voice Fran, I knew you were a good singer. Your voice is very beautiful.
ОтветитьWow! That is cool! I learn something new every time I watch your channel. Thank you, Fran. I really appreciate your work.
Ответитьthats why we love you Fran
ОтветитьThat's one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
ОтветитьYou have the perfect voice for this stuff. I enjoyed listening to you. Thank you for posting.
ОтветитьYou have a nice voice....with or without the Plate Echo...
ОтветитьI can’t believe you got an plate echo box. So awesome!!!!
ОтветитьProbably chinesium of the day!
ОтветитьFounded 1978! The german company EMT had these patented from the late 50’s and for 20 years. Then for about 3 years, everyone and their brother, echoplex included, made plate reverbs, then digital reverbs happened and killed the market.
I have owned a few original EMT 140s. This one looks about half the size, never seen one of these before. Sounds very nice, and quite different from an EMT!
Riders from the storm, though, famously is a echo chamber;-)
This is the first time I see it. I always knew about it but never saw it. Thanks Fran.
ОтветитьNo visible corrosion. Is it magnetic/stainless steel?
ОтветитьExcellent ✌️😎💨
ОтветитьFran is a Sigourney Weaver.... so she will always be a Ripley with all the tech around.
ОтветитьA Monolith with Ripley !!!
ОтветитьI want one!
When you sang it reminded me of the...
"The Carpenter's"
: )
I've probably seen this in some bands studio film or photo footage and not known. The Carpenters did a TV show once & demonstrated this back in the day, . Analog devices are rich in its effects
ОтветитьCool Fran! Release your version of "Riders on the Storm!"
ОтветитьGroovy, Doc!
Ответить"Space Saver" = So retrofuturistic 😂
Thanks for the video, take care
Our recording studio at Syracuse U’s Newhouse School had a DIY plate reverb made using a with a large piece of sheet metal suspended from a rectangular frame made from 2” pipe. There were two transducers on one end that fed the sound into the plate and two transducers on the other end collecting the “wet” reverb signal. It certainly wasn’t the equivalent of a commercially-made plate reverb but it really sounded great, the idiosyncrasies gave the sound some character.
ОтветитьPretty cool. Thanks for the explanation.
ОтветитьRadio stations I was involved with used the Hammond spring reverb. I believe it was repurposed from theater and church organs, and it took up a whole lot less space.
ОтветитьThe echo chamber at Capitol records in LA was not a plate reverb. It was a 20 foot, acoustically treated physical hallway in the basement. They adjusted the effect by moving the microphone distance to the source.
ОтветитьWdym you are in the lab? Your research must be shit bc you aren't even compensating for the fletcher munson curve. Thats why your mic sounds like shit.
ОтветитьThumbs up for mentioning the Walker Brothers!
ОтветитьThat plate reverb sounds marvelous and it's not so monstrous in size. There's a local studio that has an EMT 140 that I've worked on, luckily the electronics on that thing were modular and could be taken out of the unit, as the reverb unit was in the second floor utility room.
