I forgot to mention that a lot of current generation Simmons drums, such as the Titan 50 and the SD1250 have Bluetooth MIDI. So you will not need a cable connection for MIDI if you have one of these drum kits! You will only need to connect to the Bluetooth MIDI within the Garageband Advanced Settings, and then use an audio output from your iPad to the Aux input of the module.
ОтветитьLOL…I know damn well you didn’t say cassette tapes 😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьBuenas tardes. Sabes como conectar desde la app Indaband hacia una electronic drums roland? Geacias
ОтветитьI saw on your ipad for drum module video that there was difficulty getting different sounds on 2 and 3 zone cymbals. Then I saw your recommendations on handy drums ipad plug in. If I use handy drums, can I then select different cymbal sounds for different zones using the ipad?
ОтветитьIs this possible to do with a kit that has Bluetooth?
Ответитьthanks to your videos I've just bought the titan 50 and the coolmusic DM20 amp. I'm willing to buy an ipad but I did not quite understand what cables/conections I have to buy based on your fixed comment on this video. My question is exactly which cables do I have to buy to make the most of the iPad/Titan 50 combo?
ОтветитьI have a Yamaha dtx 520k with a dtx 500 module! I cannot find anywhere in the manual how to set this up! I got everything setup the way you did! Can record! Can use songs on the iPad! But don’t know how to turn of the local control! Need help
ОтветитьI am using a alesis sample pad pro with a kick trigger connected and for some reason I can’t get the kick to trigger the kick
ОтветитьThank you!
ОтветитьHey there!
Thanks for this helpful video, I’ve been trying to replicate this on my gear, which is as follows:
I would like to use the garage band sound library on my IPad Air 3. Gen. with my Roland SPD-SX sampler.
To connect both devices via MIDI i got the iRig Midi 2 interface and it does deliver signals to my IPad, but Garage Band won’t react to anything that comes from my Ronald sampler, which should basically do the same like any other electronic drum kit/module right?
Hope anyone can help me out with this.
C.
Hi, gread video!
I have an ipad 8th generation, which works with a camera usb adapter and my alesis nitro kit. I don't get how to manage the dynamics because to me seems like no matter how strong I hit the pads, the sound is always the same.
In your video the snare seems to be dynamic so I'm asking.

ОтветитьHow do you record de drums from the Roland on garage band? cause I don’t like the drum sets on garage band.
ОтветитьHi! I just did this with my iPad 9 and my Alesis nitro mesh, and it works just fine for a few minutes, but then it stops working, i hit the pads but it’s as if I wasn’t playing, do you know why this might be happening?
ОтветитьHello, I have an Alesis turbo battery and when I connect it to the iPad like this, the hi-hat does not recognize it as closed, just an open hi-hat. Is there a way to change the hi-hat note so that Garageband recognizes my open and closed hi-hat?
ОтветитьIve done this but I can’t figure out how to have a Tom 4 and Crash 2 on the garageband kits. All kits just have the basic drum kits with 1 crash and 3 toms
ОтветитьWhat happens if I have the iPad that has input C and does not have an auxiliary?
ОтветитьI had one of the newer iPads, but got rid of it for this same reason. Tried the hub thing, but it was still finicky and cumbersome. Hated that fact that they deliberately removed the headphone jack, and anything Bluetooth had latency. So I just went back to using my older iPad pros with home button and headphone jack.
ОтветитьHoly shit I can't believe this worked.
Ответитьyo i was using an usb female otg adapter for the module and did everything else like you said but it didnt rly work for me can you tell me why
Ответитьhi there!great videos!
i tried doing this on my ipad pro 12.9 (the one that still has the lighting and 3.5mm audio). i followed every step you did for the 9th gen ipad, but i couldnt get mine to detect my kit as a midi controller. i can hear the GB sounds on my module if i tap it from my ipad. but once i hit the kit, nothing. is there any setting i might've missed or something?appreciate your reply!thanks!
Got a $25 USB-C hub that included a usb-c input as well as the aux. cable input so that worked great with the iPad 9 Pro - thx! Edit: ghost notes not recording, hmmmm
ОтветитьAnd even better we can multi sample from ezdrummer and have the kits playing in an app called Audiolayer. I have sampled all my kits and many kontakt instruments into audiolayer. It’s a bit of work but well worth it
ОтветитьHi Justin I know I’m kinda late for the video but I connected every thing but when I hit the drums there’s no sound. Hope u can help!
Thanks
Thanks for this video - I hooked up my Alexis nitro mesh to GarageBand and am now trying to figure out how to play a song I’ve added on as a track and play my Alexis via a drum kit in garageband to record a cover while playing the cover song in garagband? I thought it would be simple - having the garageband drum kit and the song on the same track, but the drumkit isn’t working (no sound) while the music is playing? What am I missing? Help?
ОтветитьGreat vids on the e-drums. Been upgrading my set and this channel has helped a lot - just ordered the usb to lightning adapter to plug my new ipad in to garage band. Edit: currently have the IPad Pro 11th gen so will need the usb hub. Very handy for a non-mac user who has an iphone / ipad. Also had to laugh... "Oh I make a drum channel." "cool whats it called?" "DEMONIC SWEATERS"
ОтветитьWill this play the sound of GarageBand through the speaker system my drum are run through?
ОтветитьJustin I have a Drumkat 3.5 up grade to 3.8. My module is Roland td6. How can I ajust my Drumkat to have ghost sound when I play .Thank you. Like to some day meet you I live in ny also.
ОтветитьOn my Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit and my Medelli DD508DX I could literally just plug in the iPad using USB and it was pre mapped except for one or two pads, on my Roland TD11KV not so. In fact with the Roland, I have to use a MIDI INTERFACE (thank goodness it still had a midi out on the module, some modern modules don't have it anymore. There are some great apps for ios like Drum Session and DRUMS XD which are very reasonably priced too.
ОтветитьHey Justin, quick question. I understand how you go into your module and change the midi note values for your cymbals so they produce sound. But once you do that, do you have to change them back once your done using garage band? I’m new at this and that’s the one step I don’t quite understand.
Thanks!
No luck getting garage band to see Titan 50 even though it's connected via Bluetooth. I see it in garage band advanced settings, but when I add a new track, there's no option for a midi device? Have you done a step-by-step connecting Titan 50 to iPad via Bluetooth?
ОтветитьIt works to play for around 1 minute (sometimes less) before I have to replug the lightning cable. I have an ancient ipad, you think that where the problem lays?
ОтветитьHey how do I turn the local midi off on an Alesis nitro module?
ОтветитьCan I use something like my Iphone 11?
ОтветитьHi Justin. You said that we need to have a USB cable (for printers) and a USB/lightning adapter to connect the iPad to the drums. What if I use the Apple cable (the one we use to charge the iPad) and plug in a USB adapter to connect it to the drums? Does it work anyway? Thanks.
ОтветитьHi Justin, do you know if 6th generation iPads work? Lemme know : )
ОтветитьI tried recording my titan 50 internal sounds to GarageBand, on the iPad 9th gen and the audio was really quiet. I connected the drum module directly to the iPad over a USB cable into the apple camera adapter kit. Am I missing something, do I need a preamp? The midi works fine, but I am trying to record the direct sounds from the module, and that is what's coming out too quiet.
ОтветитьI’ve set everything up as you said in video but my pads don’t work. I can hear the sounds from Garage Band when I play the pads on the screen but not when I play my pads? I’ve got an Alesis Nitro module but nothing is working. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
Does garage band have a paid version that is better?
Ответитьcan u see if you can use Real Drum app by Kolb as a module too? for Android
ОтветитьI actually bought an IPAD Air 5th which was double the price of the IPAD 9th on sale for $269 Black Friday. Bummer. Until I saw that dongle you posted. Yep, ordered something just like that for another project for this IPAD. Seems to have all the ports Audio. USB A & C, HDMI etc. All is not lost. Very cool my man. Thanks
ОтветитьHallo could you please make a video off how you connect Simon Phillips Groove agent to you
e drum kit Love from Mik Roy from Denmark
I had the Alesis DM/Dock a few years ago and it was a nightmare. This version you're showing in this video is a much better way IMO. I remember recording songs off of the radio as a child with my dual cassette boom box etc. I have the iPad Air 5th gen 2022 Cellular M1 using Verizon. I love it, but I have a ton of lightning adapters/cables etc. and I HATE the USBC crap. It's overrated IMO. Great video!
ОтветитьLol man, I did that today with my 1st gen mini iPad based on your older iPad video. I gave up years ago using midi controller through lighting cable because it wont recognize it after update iOS 9.3.5. But it ocurred to me that I could connect the Simmons Titan 50 through bluetooth. And yes ! it works flawlessly. Barely noticeable latency. What I couldnt do is listen to the audio back through the Titan 50 module. I just listened through the iPads headphones output.
ОтветитьI don't plan on joining the iOS ecosystem, but this is still useful/inspirational for my purposes. I can still plug my Pyle set into my drum VST in Cakewalk. My only barrier is getting decent at the drums--you know, just a minor detail.🤔 Thanks again for the information and inspiration.
Ответитьthe GB Drums, for a free virtual drummer, have a lot of uses, but.. have a very limited amount of midi mappings for good hi hat triggering, at least in my experience.. a closed hat on the bow works fine, an open hat on the edge works fine, and you can get the pedal to trigger, well the pedal sounds.. on a Roland TD9 and the VH-11 hat controller..., no luck with getting the pedal to close an open hat sound.....you can only close the open hat by striking a closed bow.. .triggering SSD 5 or even Logic Drums requires no extra fiddling.. the hats works great... not so with the GB drums..
ОтветитьHey Justin. Thanks for the video! Do you know what the equivalent of “local control” is on the Alesis Nitro Mesh module? Thanks! John
ОтветитьThiught id ask anyone...i was researching some deals for the simmons 1250 last friday and came across a kit midiplus ed9
Anybody ever seen this , anybody ever play one?
