I love this 😢🎉
ОтветитьOnly thing I felt this movie missed was his round the world flight. They mention it when he's eating dinner with the Hepburns' but it's kind of a thrown away line. The significance of that flight was that it was not some great act of courage like Lindbergh barely getting across the Atlantic, it was a flex showing how sophisticated aviation had become. Hugh's flight was with state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipment and was meant to convince people of the safety and speed of flight. In many ways he was the Steve Jobs of his era - neither really invented fundamental new technology, but they both optimized existing technology and leapfrogged user experience.
ОтветитьHoward Hughes invented the jetway, which allows passengers to walk from a comfortable waiting area into the airplane without stepping outside, hearing the noise of the airport, or even seeing the exterior of the aircraft.
ОтветитьLeo DiCaprio was born to be a spectacular actor, as he is the best of my generation & a top five finest American thespian since WW2. Watching him in the act (literally) is beyond mesmerizing. How he didn't win an Oscar for this astounding performance boggles my mind. For he became Howard Hughes, in a fashion that was powerfully immersive & transcendent. And not to mention very entertaining. Even Howard Hughes would have been extremely impressed with Leo's depiction of him. As outstanding as the Leo canon is this performance ranks as one of his top five most brilliant, as magically riveting as it was!
ОтветитьI always flush the rivets.
ОтветитьScorsese films are always great.
ОтветитьI wonder how many young men went on to become aviators or work with airplanes in some capacity after seeing this movie? Had I seen this movie as a kid, I would have gone into some form of aviation when I graduated.
Only 1% of the American population has set foot on a commercial airliner, why?
Because they’re scared to death Jack…”
Wrong, because air travel was too freaking expensive at the time Howard.
Howard Hughes was unironically a galaxy brain.
ОтветитьI love his voice😍
Ответить"That's the future"
"The what now?"
"The way of the future.."
Any mechanical engineer here? Would it be simply a matter of getting those rivets out and making a 'countersunk depth hole' in the pre existing holes or would they have to replace the whole fuselage with new metal?
ОтветитьLooking at that reflection, Leo and Matt Damon should have been Tom and Dickie from "Talented Mr. Ripley."
ОтветитьMasterpiece: the way the future
The final scene:
He has accomplished everything he wanted to when he was a kid : he's the richest man in the world, he made films everyone will remember, he's a great aviator...
But he's not happy
This is the future
odie, quit thinking like an insect
ОтветитьFlush rivets at the time were an absurd expense. They are now industry standard.
ОтветитьHe should have gotten an Oscar for this role.
ОтветитьHe is the Elon musk of 20th century
Ответитьsrajler...
ОтветитьThis movie has all that old Hollywood glamour, but it's just nonsense. Scorsese's trying to present Hughes as an important person, as a visionary. He was no such thing. He was born with a lot of money and then he went out and made a lot more money and had some fun along the way. That's about it
ОтветитьWhy have i not seen this movie
ОтветитьFor a second I got this confused with Catch Me if You Can 😂😂
ОтветитьHis understanding of the climate is abysmal but he sure can act.
ОтветитьThe way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future.
ОтветитьIt’s not they think your crazy it’s they’re just jealous and wanna knock down all dreams and ideas you may have.
ОтветитьGavin Belson's early career
ОтветитьShould've won Best Actor with ease.
ОтветитьIs it normal that people stand so close together when they talk? Would make me highly uncomfortable! :)
ОтветитьEagles are the only birds that fly above storms.
ОтветитьI go back and watch some of Leos performances. I remember myself that his performances are believable and legendary.
ОтветитьThe cinematography in this movie is so overwhelming.
ОтветитьOmg Gavin Belson
ОтветитьZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........great movie to take a nap to.......
ОтветитьJet airliners - great vehicles for carrying people ... and viruses.
ОтветитьGod bless his entrepreneurial spirit.
ОтветитьHoward Hughes: We build a plane that flies above the weather; we can get every man, woman and child in this country to feel safe up there.
Boeing: Hold my beer!
The way of the future
ОтветитьThe way of the future?
ОтветитьLockheed Constellation
Ответитьaided by technology, the end goal is for humanity to be healthy, hardy & above the weather.
society has only just turned the corner from the industrial age, and change doesn't happen over night.
you have to be patient!
true ⎯ smog, smoke & fumes are in a way contributing to a somewhat asphyxial atmosphere (i.e. cases of asthma), more so in highly industrialized areas than others.
but to say it's suffocating humanity is an exaggeration.
a good analogy would be that of a cigarette smoker.
yea, it's not the nicest of habits, but it's not an instant killer.
the effects are definitely noticeable in the short term, but it takes a long time for the symptoms to be irreversible ⎯ like ten to twenty years of smoking two packs a day.
another apt parallel would be:
sitting in your car in a garage & letting the engine run, except... the garage isn't even really a garage... it's more like a five acre warehouse.
in short, it's not the best but it's the best we've got at the moment.
this is the trade off humanity made in it's effort to save a little more time.
the industrial age was all about INGENUITY, regardless of the consequences.
the technology age will be all about SUSTAINABILITY.
