There are smart chargers and there are smarter chargers that have a reconditioning function which would give a better chance of recovering a battery like that

Fantastic video. I had same issue with my generator battery. I hooked up my BATTERY TENDER & it wouldn’t charge. Checked voltage, only had 3.2 volts. Put the 9 volt inline & instantly recognized it and started charging!!

Battery rookie here! I assume this is a video made in the UK. Would all of the steps be the same, and in the same order, if using batteries found in the US? Not sure what the differences are, if any.

I bypassed the smart feature on one recently!!! Its now a charger!! If u hook it up, it's charging ! If u put them together, it sparks ! Just like the old good ones
The problem with smart chargers is when u need them most, on a dead battery, they are useless ! Nobody likes them bit they were invented for stupid people which the world is full of now so smart chargers are now a necessary evil😅

I know when I go to the dump on Saturday I can pick these things up for nothing in the recycle bin because the previous owner didn’t know how to use it thanks for the tip today❤️❤️‍🔥🇺🇸

Worked perfectly. Using a Schumcher automatic charger (1304), charging a battery that showed 0.2 V on meter as I write this.

It makes me question how many people have thrown out perfectly good chargers because they were tricked into thinking it was broke.

I just happened to have a 5.5v wall wart I'd previously soldered test leads too for electroplating on hand. So l tried that 1st. Worked fine...

Damn really wanted this to work. Idk if my smart charger is crap but mine wouldn’t work/recognize the car battery & charge it unless I’d leave the 9V battery connected

Thing is that if I let it connected the charger would indicate that the battery is fully charged

I let it keep working on repair mode hoping that it would maybe use up some of the 9V & charge the car battery but it just started making some popping noises

Disconnected the 9V & it kept letting out some pops until it imploded

All l needed to know was how much current and and how many volts do l need to outsmart this "smart" charger.
Every other video I've watched is just blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.....
"Usr another car battery this, use jumper cables that.. ".
Hell, if l had all that at my immediate disposal, l wouldn't even be trying to use a battery charger! I was about to kick the TV screen in while screaming "Just STFU and gimme some practical information"!

As little as 9v and almost no current will do...

Thanks maaan! Brand new battery, died in my parked car that I don’t drive. I just bought a Viking charger/maintainer from harbor freight to look after the battery for me. It wouldn’t respond. Thanks your method worked. It is processing the info at least. Not sure if it is okay though. The backlight stops blinking and shows a full battery bar, but everything disappears except for a blinking icon of a broken battery.

And you didn't add no distilled water ?
I have an agm battery and I added some distilled water , connected to the noco 10 and last I checked, it went from 0.23 to 2.67 V. It is charging overnight as I am writing this, I will go check it in the morning. But I will try that method on the second and third AGM battery.

Have 2 of these so called "Smart" chargers. Still keep my old "dumb" charger with the analogue ammeter for low voltage batteries. Be lost without it.

The big advantage of these chargers , is that they cut out at 14 Volts , thus the battery never " gasses " VERY important with sealed or gel types ...... DAVE™ 🛑

Great video! I have a smart charger and an older transformer charger which has some degree of automatic charge level. The old one should switch to trickle automatically but stopped doing that. I have a battery which has given strange problems. Below around 12 volts it sometimes just disappears. The smart charger will not work. Using the other charger wakes the battery so the smart charger will work.
My smart charger is relatively clever. It goes through a series of different charging modes depending on the state of the battery, reverting to a standby mode when the battery is full.

Great idea! Tried it and it works. It's "insane" why they do this, the shock from a 12v isn't that high. . and HOW would you charge a "dead" battery. I made a set of alligator clips and 9v to throw in my CenTech Harbor Freight charger.

Nice. I have 12V litiumbatteri that automatic turns to 0 volt if the voltage is about 11,9V, a form of security. Then it cant get charged with
the "intelligent charger", have to use an old charger to kick it up.I will test yours trick with 9V battery to start up the
"intelligent charger".

I have an even “Smarter” charger that has now decided all of my batteries are shorted. BUt they will charge with dumb chargers. Such great progress….
