Many times movie remakes of 80s TV shows are just meh, living off the nostalgia but unable to capture the originals magic. With the Equalizer movies it's different...this is what the tv show SHOULD have been....with a protagonist who's scarier than the villians.

I finally worked it out! The reason why this film (and indeed this series) appeals to me so much is because it is totally devoid of the ludicrous woke constraints placed on films these days. The actors were chosen based on merit, not on ideological claptrap, and the storyline was genuine - not manufactured to comply with nonsense.
