I've had a 2-bay Synology for almost a year now. What's the process of transferring all the data over when I decide to get a 4-Bay, like maybe a DS920+? Or do you already have a video on that?

Great video, but there a few things you are missing in respect of costs. AWS is all well and good, but the cost of downloading that data is super expensive compared to other cloud solutions like Backblaze. If you go down the separate Synology NAS be mindful of geolocation. It's no good having it within the same area/postcode as you.

On average you will get the cost back for buying a NAS upfront at around 5 years after the purchase. By that time you will more than likely have to replace at least one drive. So in the long term it all depends on how much data storage you really need and your security/privacy vector as to whether a NAS is cheaper.

Cloud storage is actually very practical, but I am not comfortable having my files scrutinized by the storage service. So I am trying to re-store all my data locally with some backups. Cloud storage would be just for some on-the-go, multi-platform job.

Hi, i don't see a link in the description to the video you did on using Synology Photos. Did you forget to include it?

Cloud based storage leaves my 'stuff' at the mercy of cost and lack of access and frankly security. Buying a NAS or a couple of 4TB or greater drives gives me peace of mind. That's it. Not for me.
