There is a huge difference between being new and not getting different ethnicities to "look right" and being unnew and purposefully whute-washing characters or ONLY giving them the same stereotypical features because you can't be bothered to give different ethnicities the same consideration.

If someone calls you racist for the first issue, turn around and find a 30+ year old who still uses Tumblr. They used to be incredibly overly sensitive to every social justice issue and are now pretty much dormant because they exhausted all their energy having fights that didnt matter in their 20s, unless there is an opportunity to kick someone in the teeth for trying to use social justice language to bully people in the year of our lord 2023.

Hi y'all! I draw characters with dark skin tones pretty often and I want to share some things that help me! Sometimes on very dark skin, strong shading may become too harsh or even not show up much at all, so adding extra brightness to areas that light is hitting can help add some more depth and balance that out. Use your light source to build height. For picking nice skin colors, I like to use a slightly desaturated dark red or orange to help add some natural blush to the whole body. Personally I do not find the lighter orange and yellow section of the color wheel to make very lifelike colors even for pale skin so I avoid it. Really just try not to use anything grayish because all skin has blood behind it. Obvi my advice isn't perfect but I hope somebody finds it useful! Look at lots of tutorials made by black artists and don't be afraid to try! 💕

Honestly i dont know how to draw ethnic communities and thats why i didnt colour many drawing until recently as i feared being called a racist cuz i only drew white characters cuz i cannot get the skin tone right for poc characters and dont undertsand how ppl do. I have come to not care how ppl interprit my art cuz at the end of the day ik what i meant and can tell others to help understand

I've used lighting help websites before and they were kinda cool but they don't replace actually practicing lighting lmao. They also seem to only work with humans and certain art styles. They don't work well for me.
